One tip that I find useful for when painting bone over black primer is to start with a single coat of dark brown, then a coat of light brown, and finally 2 coats of bone. You'd still be painting ~4 coats of paint, but if there are any patchy sections, it generally doesn't show quite as prominently.

Love that Ulthwe color scheme! My friend who introduced me to the hobby had an Ulthwe army that routinely thrashed my poor White Scars due to 3rd edition's ridiculous balance issues. He then decided to remake his army to take to the LA grand tournament and sculpted greenstuff cloaks for every guardian and freehanding the Eye of Isha on all of them. He also spent a lot of time hacking up metal Wraithlords and putting them in kung fu poses and converting some flying farseers with modeled special effects. I helped him test and had a lot of input on the list that took, IIRC, third place. It was a total blast and I don't know how we got any of our university work done. Watching you do the color scheme and the freehand really took me back. Thanks!

Ulthwe was the right choice! Throw in plenty of orangey yellows and deep reds and they can look really vibrant

Love the space elfs Deets! Agree on not chasing the trends. Your focus on bringing back old models (fantasy or 40k) while using modern paints is what brought me here. It really brings back fond, goblin green coloured memories of when i first joined the hobby (3rd edition 40k). Keep doing what you are doing

Recently discovered, on trying to dig out a bunch of vintage minis from my parents' attic, that they'd given them all away to charity. Gaaaghchkfffffffff! There was all sorts in there. First edition beaky marines in metal and plastic, loads of cool chaos (both fantasy and 40K), orcs and orks, some of the original Rogue Trader minis, original Squats, a sizeable skaven army, several Thruds, second edition Blood Bowl with the foam board, Dark Futures, the bloody MIGHTY-EFFIN-FORTRESS and even the chaos toilet. Someone has had an absolute bargain out of that lot. Good for them. I am fine ... I am fine ... I am fine ...

2nd edition Ulthwe was black and yellow and 3rd edition on was black and bone, so this particular model with both bone and yellow feels in between 2nd and 3rd. I wouldn't have tried to mix them but they do work. Great job with the freehands. I would like to practice them more because I'd like to freehand the banners of my older models, mostly in a style that matches the old predesigned banners from 2nd edition 40k and 4th/5th edition fantasy. Great paintjob!

I actually think the "lopsided" lean gives the miniature a nice bit of dynamic posing. There's sort of a contrapposto effect about it? It feels like it's in movement a lot more than a fully symmetrical balanced pose would imply. I'd consider that a nice happy accident!

the color scheme of the Yme-Loc craftworld is my favorite. for a really long time i have always said if they ever make plastic warp spiders i would build an eldar army. already working on collecting models and paint for a Yme-Loc army.

The funny thing about this miniature is it's a chimera of two other sets with the addition of the baby carrier and modified legs. It's like a Farseer had some leftover spirit walker and Heavy weapon pieces laying around and decided what he could do with them.

That model brings back memories of my old friends rage quits in second edition. Vindicar assassins could pick locations on vehicles, one shield breaker shot to destroy the 2 + save, second shot kills the pilot. Walking artillery finished, game over because he quit.

Yeah it’s really tricky! I think it’s finding the right consistency of the paint with the lighter bone like colours and slowly building from darker to lighter highlights. It’s hard because the Wraithbone is already so bright and you need to step it up from there. I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it mate! Thanks for watching 🍻🙌

Please be careful throwing pewter models into the freezer, especially older ones, lest you encounter something called "tin pest". As long as there's some lead in the metal, they should be fine but you don't want your models falling apart. Acetone on the other hand should give you a smelly but workable way to get rid of not only old paint layers but also epoxy resin and glue.
