Painting a Desert Landscape En Plein Air | Oil Painting Techniques, How to Improve

Oil painting a glowing sunset landscape on canvas. I take you through the process of this newest painting I titled "Unexpected Beauty." I was looking at this spot near camp off and on all week, but it wasn't until the lighting on this day that I became inspired to paint it.
I show you in detail how I constructed the composition, the trees and blueish atmosphere. I explain my process of how I layered the paints, what colors I used, and how I'm learning plein air.

You take camping to a whole new level when you have an art studio in the tent! I love it! I'm going to have to revisit plein-air. I've tried it in the past, with very little success. Your explanation and understanding of the process makes me want to explore this once more. Beautiful work, A tip I found is to use a size 10 or 12 brush. It will help you finish a painting under a hour and apply clean paint and leave it. Each to there own but it works for me. Happy Painting🎨😊🙏

Very nice...I live the subject of the painting..as I grew up in the desert southwest. Had you thought about leaving the painting in its more impressionistic form? I am also an artist, living here in the Austin TX area. I really enjoy watching other paint... it's always a great way to learn.

@@chuckblackart I don't if you have heard of Johannes Vloothuis, but I have taking online workshops from him since 2015. He is really good teacher...and your painting kind of reminded me of his style...except he's a tad more on the impressionistic side.
