im shocked, I have seen about 20 videos on painting guitars with lacquer, they take about 3 months to finish, you barely sanded the original finish, painted it without fear, polished it and boom! Its done, and it looks beautiful, I am really in shock

Thank you, I did this just as an experiment of what you can do with cheap paint, but here's a video of the paint that I usually use. kzbin.info/www/bejne/noGlo5ydnrqYZqcsi=a2qZQgnGfyaAD304

Another great video Tom. That paint job looked excellent. I would never guess it was less than $3.00.

Thanks, it wouldn't be my first choice, but it works.

That's a very handsome instrument with a very convincing Strat sound; excellent job Tom. And thanks for the painting demonstration - I use aerosol cans too but I'm always very heavy-handed and make a lot of work for myself in trying to improve the final finish. Your 'dusting' method is most helpful. Thank you again and as always Tom.

Thanks Mark! I always start any spray paint job with a "dusting", that way you can address any issues before you have too much paint on it.

Sherwin Williams appliance white enamel maybe? Certainly did the trick for sure no matter what it is.

That looks mint! Very impressive. Does the finish feel sturdy or will it rub off easily?
@TomPetersonRefuseReuse Жыл бұрын
Thank you. It feels very sturdy, but I didn't try to chip it or anything.

I can't imagine that guitar has a lacquer finish, more than likely a poly type finish. I just made it to the end of the video, great job Sir. A little bit of elbow-grease goes a long way.

Oh, thanks! As I said in the video, I'm not a paint expert, which is kind of the point of the video, to encourage others to try to paint their first guitar. I tried looking this guitar up, to see what kind of finish it was, and couldn't find anything. I did look on Harmony's website, and it seems they only make higher end guitars now, with nitro finishes.
@hkguitar1984 Жыл бұрын
@@TomPetersonRefuseReuse Yeah, the poly finish is very popular for manufactures as there is almost no buffing or polishing required. I've built a couple electric guitars and the cheapest price I could find to finish a bare guitar body in nitro cellulose is over $200. Not to mention the EPA licensing required for a manufacture to use Lacquer (however that is only in the USA, I suspect overseas manufactures are not as friendly to the environment, but I digress. Your work is very encouraging, the end results look fantastic. Once again, Thank You for producing this video.
