I’ve found Lahmian medium with citadel shades give a bit of a smoother coat than water or pure when applying to large smooth areas. However when adding to texture there’s really no difference imo

Just as a bit of history for you, the Pro-Acryl paints were created by Monument Hobbies ala Jason Craze before they did a merger with Creature Caster. A delightful combination if you ask me.

1.) Creature Caster sculpts are absolutely sensational. I've been in love with their models for a while. 2.) Adobe makes a great color-picking app called Adobe Capture, essentially letting you use your camera to pick out interesting colors and palettes from real world objects and environments.

I know - it's 8 months late- but I'm late to the party and with a recent illness and surgery that's taking a while to get over I'm enjoying quite a few painting channels on YT - but I really enjoyed the painting mini - most notable feature - the transition between the horn on the wings and the wings themselves. - that 'blue dot' transition just worked for me. Thanks for the further hints and tips - new to me but further zenithal shading with the airbrush as you paint and not just for zenithal undercoating - my mind is blown (yes it is rather limited - I'll admit) ! Thanks you very much - keep em coming!

Called the wash mediums by shine and density. The water pools more so less wash on surfaces and more gunking up the shadows. Pure wash just stains everything *and* pools in the shadows. Lahmian gets a nice balance between staining and not overpooling in shadows. It was very *very* difficult to tell and won't matter on anything short of a Crystal Brush entry, but it's there. Great work on the model, as always! Totally going to be looking into Creature Caster sculpts too. They look awesome!

Dont get me wrong this Demon looks extremly nice and bad ass! And normally i really like flames in other colors but a small part of me wished the flames were in a super flasy and intense orange red with black.

Lahmian medium is just acrylic matte medium, which is available much cheaper from artists' paint lines. Diluting with acrylic medium gives you more capability for dilution before the acrylic resin concentration drops to where it won't evenly polymerize while curing. What point you need to add medium instead of more water depends a great deal on what brand of paint you're using. For reference, one of the reason that craft paints are cheaper is that they start with a lower concentration of medium and they're thus more susceptible to breaking during dilution. It's also worth considering acrylic airbrush medium if you want a very liquid consistency.

The water versus lahmian medium is a generalization tbh. Depending on where you live the chemicals within your tap water varies. English tap water for example is drinkable but due to the change from sewage to drinkable it attains a crazy amount of chemicals. The minute i add English water to my paint it tends to separate on my pallette.

Cool video, I'm honestly still too intimidated to build and paint miniatures. When I struggle just to build simple Gundams, that's including trying to follow the instructions, I'm pretty sure I would somehow wreck a lovely figure like this just trying to put her together. I also don't have any experience what-so-ever when it comes to painting.

What I did to start painting minis was buy a pretty cheap kit of 20 models for age of sigmar for about 50$ Canadian and tried out different colour schemes on each until I found what I liked and how to do it.

Yeah your assessment of the paints are spot on. My main complaints were with the bottles. I'm used to Vallejo and Army Painter bottles, which are better to work with in my opinion. Nonetheless, they are great paints.

So I noticed that you highlighted the outer parts of the flame with lighter color. Have you tried inverting normal highlighting with fire? The inner part of a fire is generally brighter in color than the outer volume. What does that look like in paint?

Concerning the wash dilution with water- you are both diluting the pigment and the surfactant, thus it should react more of a glaze, as the surfactant concentration is decreasing (that's why wash mediums differ by their surfactant concentration). It could be that there is a dilution threshold (when using water), at which the pigment from the wash would stop pooling in the recesses. But, I haven't tried diluting it with water, thus I'll believe anyone who has hands on experience on the situation ;) I believe Black Magic Craft had a video on this whole shpiel.
