Awesome video Scott! I really liked the color pattern of the first cape, but I really appreciated you explaining how you went back over the cape when you painted it the second time. I dont have an air brush and really enjoyed seeing how to get a really cool looking cape by bringing up the color from the darks to light. I always learn something new from your videos, whether it is blending techniques, feathering, etc. Thank you for putting out quality content! Tip for rolling out Greenstuff/Apoxie Sculpt/Milliput: roll it out on baking parchment paper (prob the same stuff most of us have for our wet palette). Apparently it is laced with silicon which is what keeps it from sticking to baking foods and, subsequently, sculpting mediums. Thanks Uncle Atom! *Insert old 50's thumb swoosh and cheesy smile here*
@IsenMike5 жыл бұрын
Parchment paper (like you'd use for a wet palette) is actually really good for rolling Milliput. The Milliput will stick, but you can rub water through the other side of the paper, thinning the Milliput just where it's adhering to the paper, and then you can peel it off pretty easily.

This is my favorite video of yours so far. You are my go to mini painter on youtube for two reasons: First, no one else seems to be critical of their own work or ever make mistakes. Sure, Vince Venturella can put more contrast in an ogre's left buttcheek than ive ever had in any entire model in my life, but I'd rather see someone stick a tiny head on a big thor any day. Fckn up is relatable and like-able and mistakes are better learning points. Second, you're from Minnesota, so.... yeah. We just unconsciously hang dong all day. What it is bro. What it is.

Hello Scott.. Handling with miliput to make it flat, better using baby oil for a better result. I used this kind of clay like miliput or Epoxy Sculpt often and better used it with baby oil. Baby oil can smooth the result and not making the clay sticky to the hand also..

Hi Miniac I thought the lightning effect on the blade was good enough, but I know that it could've informed the NMM a bit more, and I wish we could've seen you wrangle that sort of problem. I know you might have wanted a more game-ified effect so its not a bad solution, but I also thought that up against such a realistic shine, that it was an abrupt contrast. I hope you do more videos. I hope your patreon is working out well for yal. I also want to say that I really enjoy your podcast. I know its hard starting out with anything so please keep it up!

I like the sculpting of the hair. Why did you use milliput for the axe and not a piece of plasticard?
@Miniac5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, I've just seen a lot of professional sculptors take this route. Miliput is for sure a lot easier to shape, but also more brittle
@redrooster73715 жыл бұрын
@@Miniac To shape, yes. But to make a flat piece to cut out the axe? I made lots of tiny tools like hammers etc. for a diorama out of plasticard. If you shape something by sanding and cutting away I'd try plasticard the next time. I find it a lot easier and less messy to sand than milliput. Give it a try. BTW for my german ears you pronounced Mjolnir correct.

I feel like the issue with the head is bc classic cape comics have very little to do with actual human anatomy, trying to apply reason was always going to fail. Like you said, he's not the shape of a normal man, so I think you would've had to find a similarly Liefield-esque mini for it to look totally perfect. I think maybe you could've cut the neck down shorter to match the super swole look, but it's superheroes, it doesnt matter.

I really enjoyed your interpretation of infinity war thor! I found it interesting the way you sculpted the weapon stormbreaker and really liked the conversion head. I think my favorite parts were the weapon sculpt and the chest piece. I think its pretty sweet how you bring so much contrast to each area. Also thought it was interesting how much control you had with edge high lighting with such a large brush, or it seemed large. I find myself trying to use a small brush to paint on my warmachine mini's, but I'm struggling with this nasty dry halo near the feral on my brushes. I really enjoy your vids, don't waste time on the boots boss!

Regarding the head size: One (I guess ironic) thing about that is that in the comics, heads are drawn smaller in order to make the characters look more imposing and taller. Of course, since this is the movie version, that makes it... wrong. So to speak. That said, I didn't see a real issue with the head size per se - the armor might bulk him up quite a lot - although, in all fairness, I think that might come down to the simple fact that the scult itself is subpar. But nice and entertaining video, so props for that.

Stormbreaker was very well done, sir! Having Thor land with such force that the earth is splitting apart, was a brilliant idea. That part looks badass! I've been thinking about this for some time: NMM which isn't near perfection looks just straight up worse than TMM. I think it takes an insane amount of skill, time and effort to pull. Hell no - I can't do it myself. I respect the effort, Scott. It's like it looks bad, not at all. There are some competition pieces out there with some staggeringly gorgeous NMM work, which I dare say surpasses any TMM I've ever seen, but the investment is for sure enormous. Have you guys had similar thoughts?
