So gorgeous!! I gasped when you zoomed in on the face and all the wonderful, thick brushstrokes. Definitely worth the scraping and repainting :) Also laughed out loud at the “saddest Lana songs” playlist, I’ve been there

Ah! ...so you hadn't really discovered the Pre-Raphaelites yet when I said "Pre-Raphs...check!" last time. I think I've gained some insight here into how you delve into an unfamiliar art era, and how you begin to incorporate it into your own voice. Giving your hair in the photo a red-heightened, "Pre-Raph blowout" was an excellent idea, and beautifully done! I didn't see or hear mention of "Sweet Rose" aka "Soul of the Rose" by Waterhouse, so I can only wonder if you might have taken the blowout even farther had you seen that pic. Your painting is (of course) gorgeous and super-well executed, and you don't look tense. You just look cool, aloof, and lost in thought, like all the models at your matter-of-fact modelling agency!! The only issue I see is it looks like one of your drag-and-drop hair extensions is cut off from the rest of the hair toward the bottom. You might want to make it look continuous, because my eye goes right to that spot. Maybe you can patch it to the rest of the hair once the painting is dry. I hope you'll forgive me if what I'm about to say is a little cringy. I think you (ITP) probably have the healthiest attitude I've ever seen toward yourself as a model (ITM). I also think if ITP and ITM were strangers, and ITP were trying to book ITM to pose for her, ITP would probably get sticker shock at ITM's hourly posing rate. I also think it's just as well that you don't see it. Anyway, think of the money you're saving, being one person instead of two!!

Oh I am familiar with that painting but it’s not in my book so I completely forgot about it! Thanks for pointing that out, you’re right I wasn’t paying enough attention to that bit. Honestly after having a hard time I just wanted it done! Will go back and fix it 🙏 haha that’s a good way to put it, it does feel like 2 different people!

Gorgeous piece, and it was particularly good to see your painting process in slowed-down format! Would you be willing to make a video about the practical things you have done in order to develop your skill and technique over the years, including any resources that have helped?

Simplifying brushstrokes is a great way to set about painting - with photo-references one have a tendency to try to emulate the photo reference (every little detail) - but as you are into the more impressionistic style, you are definitely thinking the right way. Good grief - what happened at 08:45 of the video! 🙃 (Thanks for the video tip). The painting was great already. But being an accomplished artist you did not discourage too much (I hope). Brilliant painting! Next purchase if possible?

awesome work! i dont use the ampersand panels but they look like theyre just primed aluminium boards. i just buy dibond/aluminium composite material and stick a layer of acrylic gesso on top. i think the slippery surface can be a bit weird to get used to at first but man i love them so much. my main tips would be to use soft synthetic (i use eclipse from rosemary and co) and really load up your brushes with paint. bristle brushes will just pick up paint as your put stuff down which can be annoying. also i think once the first layer of paint is down, its even nice to start painting on top for your second layer. i think we use the same w&n water mixable oils, in which case i use them just straight from the tube. no medium. although i'll dilute with water for the very first block in sketch, but thats pretty much it.

Thanks that’s good to know it gets easier! That’s the exact problem I had on my first painting, the brushes picked up the layer underneath. I used eclipse brushes this time so I got that bit right! I was using a little linseed oil but as you saw I was having a hard time, so will try without next time. Thanks!

Beautiful work. I Like your idea in approaching your painting in this different style and the hair is stunning. May I ask which boards you use and are they better than canvas boards?
@izzywebberart
@izzywebberart 11 ай бұрын
Thank you! This board is the Primed Smooth panel from Ampersand. I think it depends on your personal preference, whether you prefer the textured look of canvas or completely smooth surface. I can say from my experience that these panels are harder to work on!
