hi weees, did you use candy paint for blue area? It looks like one transparent color, than masking details, and another layer of the same transparent blue. Am I right?

the base is some light metallic blue i had mixed up. it looked like blue aluminum! the darker blue is a mix of a bunch of other colors, but it is essentially some kind of candy blue with some pearl flakes to give it some nice look.

If you remove the padding, is the helmet still homologated? Even after you replace the padding?

i would not remove the main padding. it is generally glued in and not meant to be removed for the life of the helmet. the cheek pads and chin cover are removable, and i remove these to paint.

I understand this is art, I understand every helmet will vary depending on time and effort... but about how much would you charge to paint a helmet very similar in detail to that MINUS the all the ghost Porsche logos? My son is getting into karting and thought if he really starts taking it serious it would be cool to have a custom helmet painted for him.

Just started mine . Can I ask what grit wet dry paper your using after clear coat ?. Done a trial on an old helmet and used 1000 grit but it left blemishes . At what stage is best to sand down after clear ?.

if you want to cut to re clear 400 - 600. if you want to buff 1500 or 2000. 2000 buffs out easier and nicer.

+weeeesssss ok thank you . What about where it has run and dried creating a rain drop look . I'm testing on an old lid . I may have applied it to thick but when it came to sanding it down it has removed all the paint .

you have to remove the run before you can smooth it. i shave just the raised part of the run with a razor blade, then i sand smooth. build your clear slower and you wont get runs and it will be thicker and smoother.

whats the best way to remove the rubber trim!! I just did shoie and it was a paint to get it off!!

Don't ever remove any trim. You will certainly ruin paint trying to get it back on. Focus on taping off the edge with 3m #471 blue tape then masking tape. Even if there is a bit on the edge it can be easily scraped off with exacto.
