Thanks for the video! Instead of the AK washable white paint, can regular Tamiya acrylic flat white be used with the AK heavy chipping solution? Thnx!
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment. Yes you can use normal Tamiya white paint for that effect if you apply the AK chipping fluid or two coats of water-soluble hairspray underneath. I've done this before, but instead of using Tamiya X-20A Thinner or their Lacquer Thinner I actually thinned the top coat of paint with water to make it less durable. It will chip much better that way :)

A bit crazy with the chipping - seems more like flaking. That said I’ve never done winter cam and it is known to take a good few times to get this right so no doubts I’ll be going through the same learning process

Excellent video, thank you! I'm looking to get into modelling and love watching your videos. Quick question, someone else asked about using varnish to seal in your results midway through the process. Do you do this when completely finished to protect the model? Any worries about longer term effects to the paint without sealing in everything at the end?

another great video! I used hairspray on my KV-1, didnt turn out great, I couldnt get multiple small chips, only big ones, but I fixed that with oils. Ive previously used Vallejo Chipping Medium, work great on whitewash, hairspray is better on normal chipping. the Vallejo stuff made a beatiful streaked worn effect. have you tried it? and in the previous episode you mentioned you like painting chips with oils rather that acrylics, why's that?
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I've never tried the hairspray technique myself but thanks for the warning...this AK product seems to work quite well so I'll stick with it for now. I've never used that Vallejo product but I'll sure keep an eye out for it now! My local shop has lots of Vallejo so I'll take a look tomorrow. I prefer chipping with oil paints mainly due to their consistency - being a little more waxy than acrylics - and the fact that they dry slower. Because they're more waxy i find that they make more precise chips; acrylics have a tendency to flow a little and sometimes the chipping I get is more like round areas than edgy ones, especially when doing the "sponge chipping". And the longer drying time allows me to easily remove the chipping if i don't like it while chipping with acrylics is hard to remove as you use very little paint so it dries very quick.

So, Learned a lot from your videos. I have a question, is there really that much difference between Migs weathering wash and regular white acrylic paint.
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 8 жыл бұрын
Yes there is a difference. Basically the AK chippable white paint is acrylic paint that will chip when you brush over it with warm water like I showed in the video. You couldn't chip normal white acrylic paint that easily. However, I also used the heavy chipping fluid in the video, and this product acts in a similar way to the chippable white paint product, except it has no colour. So you can use that chipping fluid, then spray white acrylics on top of it and then chip the paint with water, as the chipping fluid under the paint will create the chipping effect through the acrylic paint on top. Doing that makes the same effect as the chippable white paint does, just it takes more time ad you must first spray two layers of the chipping fluid and then your acrylics, rather than just one layer of the AK chippable white paint product.

I've never seen a Panzer III with the spaced armour and 37mm before
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 6 жыл бұрын
That's the short 50mm gun, L/42 as opposed to the later L/60. No tanks were supposed to maintain the 37mm gun for the invasion of Russia in '41.

I assume you airbrush the chipping fluid? Anyway to do that without an airbrush?
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 4 жыл бұрын
No, you need to airbrush it on. But you can always use hairspray as an alternative to chipping fluid. You can lightly mist the hairspray on from the original spray can it comes in.
@mattcappelli5822

Great video! Awesome !!!!Just a question.. did you gloss the model before blending the oil paint with thinner ? All the best, Fernando
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! No I did not gloss coat before the oils because I use a very specific thinner for the oil blending that doesn't thin down any other type of paint, so it's safe to not protect the base coat. If you're just using a more standard thinner, like any of the main brand thinners (AK, Mig, art store brands, etc.), it'll be mineral spirit-based and then it will damage any enamel paint effects you've done already, such as AK Interactive, MiG Productions, Mig AMMO washes and streaking effects, to name a few. So I would recommend a gloss coat to be safe, because it's most likely your thinner will cause problems if you don't gloss it :)

@Panzermeister36

+Finn Woodward I don't think I did on this model but it recommend that you apply a varnish at that point. Satin varnish or gloss is what I would use.
