Come with me on a little trip to the magical coastline of Covehithe in Suffolk! In this video I'll tell you why it's such a special place, why I love beach combing, and the materials I use to paint some of my coastal finds back at home. And yes, I do show my face in this one - albeit briefly! I hope you enjoy it (the vlog, not my face). Natasha xxx

Beautiful, Natasha. Your designs look so delicate yet lasting and turn a beachcombing find into a work of art to treasure. I believe your painted stones and sea glass have a magical healing quality.Lovely to keep and hold but also make a lovely gift too. A way too to remember the beautiful and delicate Covehithe. If only it could saved.

Natasha here is my suggestion for the coastline. When you are feeling inspired go the beach and draw a circle in the sand. Stand in its center and take a few deep breaths. Feel your feet grow roots in the sand and antenna from the top of your head. You are a conduit. See the coastline remaining there over a hundred years from now strong and vital and give your gratitude to the four directions and all life which is your relation, as if it is a done deal. Leave a small token of your gratitude step out of the circle and go about your life. 💖

That brought back memories as I used to live near Covehithe and loved walking on the beach. Sometimes unexploded bombs get washed up on the beach and have to be dealt with by the Navy, and once a whole bunch of hand grenades appeared on the beach and were believed to have been buried in the ground by soldiers at the end of World War 2 only to have the cliff erosion dump them onto the beach. Very nice video Natasha.

Beautiful simple art!!! The only thing is constant -is change! Perhaps it’s yielding for something else, equally beautiful. It looks like there are no trees to hold the coastline, maybe you can wish for a bunch of seeds to root and grow into mighty rooted trees 🥰
@NatashaNewtonArt2 жыл бұрын
We were surprised when we visited this time as there are usually dead trees on the beach, as at one time there were quite a few along the cliff edge. Unfortunately, nothing seems to be able to stop this erosion, but we can hope and pray for a miracle!

Such a great little video,and I can see why the suffolk coast inspires you so much,such a shame that the beach is diassparing so much because of costal erosion,but it looks like a great beach for beachcombing too and finding treasures from the sea. There is something lovely about finding pieces of sea glass and beach pottery, little treasures and little revelations, I still love the tiny buzz when I find a nice piece on my local beaches. Lovely to get to see you painting on these finds in real time too. I loved the large stone with the bird ( I do love your bird images),some of the smaller pieces would make stunning pieces of jellwery maybe.. I love how the varnish protects your designs, but also enhances the colours of the glass and pottertyand stones too. It felt like we were there beachcombing with you!. Have you thought of maybe gold FW acrylic ink on the beach glass or silver maybe for something different. I like this informal type of video where we get to see what inspres you around the area where you live. All the pieces you painted looked stunning,making them into little precious objects,and if you add them to your shop am sure they will find new homes very quickly!. A lovely gift of a video. (matt)

Thanks Matt, I'm so glad that you enjoy this type of video! I love making these vlogs - they're always the least popular type of video on my channel (the vast majority of my audience just want art hauls and swatching!) but I feel there's something special and valuable about sharing more of the inspiration and process side of being an artist. I actually found a tiny piece of aqua green sea glass that I'd like to have set into a silver ring, if I can find someone to do it. :)
@Vanitasmortedigital2 жыл бұрын
@@NatashaNewtonArt I love that you vary the videos you share with us,it's a great reflection of your journey as an artist. I love the hauls videos and the swatching videos are always a joy to watch,but I love the vlogs because it's like we are having a conversation with you,artist to artist so to speak and looking over your shoulder,they give insight into the life of a working artist and for me they are really inspiring and also impart a lot of knowledge too,but in a way we can all relate to. The piece of aqua green sea glass sounds like a real find,maybe look on Etsty for a silver smith or maybe amazon handmade,the fact the glass has already been tumbled/polished by the sea will make it a lstriking ring I'm sure.,why not ask if any of your patrons are jewellery makers. I think for me the Vlogs are like you speaking in your own voice if that makes sense and they are llike spending time with a creative and like minded friend. (matt)

Hello Natasha, just found your channel and watched this video... love what you have done here. i collect stones/shells and glass everywhere i go. On my to go list is Seaham on the east coast well up north (uk) . There are some videos of the story of Seaham and some amazing coloured glass can be found due to an old glassworks that used to tip all its waste over the cliff. I will go and see your other videos as your work is great.

My grandmother lives on Smith Island, which is one of the only islands in Maryland, USA and can only be reached by boat. The island suffers from erosion and high tides but as children we would go “mud larking” on the shore to find sea glass, bottles, and other treasures at low tide. It reminded me a lot of this ☺️ thank you for sharing!!

Thank you for sharing your Beachcombing at Covehithe, Soffolk beach. It is heartbreaking to know the ocean it taking that beautiful area back into the sea. I love your paintings on the rocks. I have a large collection of rocks to paint and plant to start that this summer. Do you ever use gesso on the rocks before paint them? Have a wonderful week. Love, Fran
@NatashaNewtonArt2 жыл бұрын
I can only hope that a miracle happens and the erosion stops or slows dramatically. I can't bear to think of Covehithe not being there. As for the rocks/sea glass/beach pottery, I only ever give them a quick wash in soapy water, rinse, and allow to dry before working on them. If you're using acrylic paint or acrylic ink, that's all you need to do! xx

Beautiful. Thank you for sharing your walk on the beach. It is sad about the erosion. I wonder if anything can be done to slow down the damage being done.
@NatashaNewtonArt2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not. Apparently, if they stop the erosion (which is very costly and difficult), it just moves further along the coastline. It's such a beautiful, tranquil place. It kind of feels like going back in time when you go there.

The beach looks so stone covered. In Australia where I live we have ninety miles of golden sand so no sea glass for me. We do have drift wood and some odds and ends wash up occasionally on the beach. I have some shells and a perfectly preserved dead sea horse that my dog found which I treasure and keep in my bathroom. Lovely to see your face gave the video a nice personal touch made me feel as if I was strolling along with you lol.

I love the designs you paint on the found sea-things, the fw acrylic ink works wonders. I've taken to painting faces on round beach pebbles myself and quite enjoy it, thank you! and seeing the eroded shorelines is heartbreaking, the beaches here at lake Michigan are slipping away too quickly :(
@NatashaNewtonArt2 жыл бұрын
The erosion is so upsetting. The church at Covehithe used to be much further inland and it breaks my heart to think of it being washed away by the sea eventually. All of those hundreds of years of history...
