Nice tutorial on this technique, good sir.. I work with acrylics and do a similar thing scrubbing in lighter layers of highlights over the midtones and shadows, but it's neat to see you do this in oil and with your thumb. Most importantly, I'm sorry for your feline loss.. may Alphonse rest in peace.

I sort of use dry brush technique myself in pleners and my works where i want to express feelings/memories in one attempt, where i almost dont use turpentine or very few. Howeever what bothers me is that those paintings even after having surface dried keep the smell of paints, even after months. It is not a strong scent but when keeping few of those paintings in locked room makes it very noticable after entering the room. How does it work with your paitnings where you used dry brush technique? i mean, do the smell of the paint remains for a long time even if its dried?I sort of put the paint in impasto aswell, not everywehre but still...
@PaintingSkies1 Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's pretty annoying. I only use undiluted paint in a few areas in a painting, so I can't say I have met this problem.If your entire canvas is covered with impasto paint, that's a different story though. Oil paint takes a long time to dry, up to a year, so my guess is that the smell will remain that long. Maybe you should try acrylics for your impasto work. It dries really quick and doesn't smell as much as oil paint.
@GoreTheSummoner Жыл бұрын
@@PaintingSkies1 i use oils specificly for its longer drying time, i mean, acryl dries too fast for me so i cant use it the way id like to, oils are more suitable for me. my teacher told me today that it is possible that some of the scent together with a bit of humidity settled in the back side of the canvas because i kept my works in basemant after painting was done, so it didnt have the proper airing.. i will see how it will work with my next painting with proper airing and drying, maybe it will help. or ill wait one year :) or try to add just a bit of turpentine to each of colors, but not too much. so many things to learn.. :) have a good day.
@PaintingSkies1 Жыл бұрын
@@GoreTheSummoner Yes, in that case acrylics are no alternative. I'm not sure turpentine will help either. It has quite a strong smell itself. Your teachers advice seems sound. Hope it works!

@@tomasjfernandez I have used my fingers for decades now, so if there are any health hazards it's probably to late to prevent a backlash, if there is one. I threw out all turpentine based products years ago. Thank you so much for your comment on the music. It's great fun to do and it's such a pleasant surprise if it's being appreciated!

I am using acrylic paints and the canvas is dried, do you have a video to add clouds after the canvas has dried?
@PaintingSkies1 Жыл бұрын
In my Painting Clouds for Beginners video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6DUZntnmsZ8sKM) I do the entire blue of the sky first and only after it's dry I paint the clouds. Check out my website for the long version of this video (www.paintingskies.com/video). Hope this answers your question!

Do you use stiff brushes for your paintings?
@PaintingSkies13 жыл бұрын
No, most of my brushes are quite soft. If you send me an email at info@janhendrikdolsma.nl I will send you the list of the brushes and colors I use.

Excuse my Ignorance Maestro, what do you use for the sketch charcoal graphite ink?
@PaintingSkies12 жыл бұрын
I always use graphite, though back in art school I learned to use charcoal. Graphite is supposed to interact with oil paint. I must say I never noticed, but if you want to be on the safe side you should use charcoal.

dont mean to be a downer... but is it good to use bare skin on Titanium White which contains lead? (this is a sincere inquiry)
@PaintingSkies13 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your inquiry, Kevin. As far as I know lead has been banned from paints years ago, so your claim that Titanium White contains lead is new to me. Can you please share your source?

Hi, would it possible to insert a text to make it clear the name of the paints used ? Cheers.
@PaintingSkies13 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben, it's not possible to alter already posted KZbin clips, at least not with my limited technical knowledge. I will keep it in mind for the next clip though. If you like I can send you a list of the colors I use. Mail me at info@janhendrikdolsma.nl.
