Hi Matthew! Good question! 8oz is probably enough if you want to do a single coat. I like having a little extra if I decide to do that really thick coating that requires at least 2-3 pours or to fix any mistakes that can happen with dust or bugs etc. Hope that helps! Happy pouring!

Very Very Nice! I see you used a brush to clean up the edges of the board from drips. But dont they form again? I usually use tape to build a wall but Im open to other methods. In other words how do you get your edges to stay neat and clean until the epoxy dries?
@KatLiepinsArt2 жыл бұрын
Hi!!! I babysit the drips with the silicone scraper/brush until they stop and then use a sander to grind of any remaining drips on the back side of the board (which are very few) once everything has cured. Great question! I love learning different techniques. How do you keep the tape from becoming embedded in the resin? What kind of tape do you use?
@sqrrlxprntzprintshop2 жыл бұрын
@@KatLiepinsArt Thank you for answering! I may try babysitting with my next project and see how it goes. I use Tuck Tape to build a dam around the edge. The tape is very sticky and if not careful can be hard to work with. I fold the tape lengthwise against itself leaving a small area for the tape to adhere to the board. Folding the tape over makes it more stable to hold the epoxy in. To keep it from becomming embedded, just remove it before the resin fully hardens...like maybe 6-8hours into curing.

Maybe I missed it, but I didn’t see anywhere that described how to keep the truck holes from closing with the resin?
@KatLiepinsArt3 жыл бұрын
Hi Frances! You can handle it a few different ways but I taped the back of the deck so that the holes filled evenly with resin like the rest of the surface of the board and drilled them out a few days later. You just have to be very careful, work slowly with the power drill, and use tape so that the resin doesn’t crack or splinter as you drill through. Hope that helps! 😊

@KatLiepinsArt2 жыл бұрын
Hi Juliana! Great question. You should be able to coat a single board in 2-3 layers with the pint size bottles of Makerpoxy at this linkamzn.to/3zuA8UO. You are better off to mix a little more than you think you’ll need since not pouring enough is where you run into trouble. Gravity will cause any excess epoxy to level and run off the edges if you pour a little more than you needed to. This stuff is actually really forgiving. I’d love to see what you make with it and let me know how it goes! I hope this helped!! 👍💜

Hi Lisa! You can paint on sanded wood as long as you have a highly pigmented paint. Good question. Short answer is “sometimes”. It’s a little bit about trial and error and finding the right mixture of fluorescents and regular acrylics to achieve the look you want. I’d do a quick test before painting on your actual piece to see if they amount your mixture glows and whether it gives you the specific color you’re looking for. I hope that helps! If you didn't have a blank what would you use to remove the previous paint?
@KatLiepinsArt Жыл бұрын
Sanding should work just great! Then spray paint prime over anything like possible stains that didn’t come out of the wood. Hope that helps, James!

What kind of projector do you use?
@KatLiepinsArt2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom! I have a couple of projector choices at different price points on my website www.KatLiepinsArt.com. I’ve used both that I have listed and if you just want it mainly for art, I recommend the less expensive model. I hope that helps!!! 😊😊😊

Does the art scratch after resin?
@KatLiepinsArt2 жыл бұрын
Hey Lauren! Great question. The art itself is somewhat protected under the resin layer(s) but can scratch if the abrasion is deep enough. It would most likely scratch off if you rode the board on a rail or ran it over concrete. I use the process for creating art boards (ones that are intended to hang as wall art) and not for boards that are meant to be ridden and beaten up. I hope that makes sense. Have a great day!

and would not an acrylic black marker do better or is it too thick along the edges to get that smooth with a marker? (paint marker brush)
@KatLiepinsArt Жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa! You could use and acrylic paint marker, I just prefer to do my line work with a brush. Good question! 😊
@lisavento7474 Жыл бұрын
Well I wondered if since the acrylic is not as flat as a marker, would the paint control my outline too much if I used marker, Luke going over foothills and makinf the line wobbled but it seems easier for thin line work to get consistency over a brush? And do you find ... from what I think I see, that painting thin on grained unprimed wood may be more of a staining thing? Want more translucent effect?
@KatLiepinsArt Жыл бұрын
It sounds like you prefer using paint markers. That's totally cool! Go for it. Lining with a brush takes a little more practice and isn't the method for everyone. I just happen to like it. For the paint, again, if it isn't highly pigmented you will need to lay down layers to get full coverage. Otherwise, yes, it would most likely have a stained/translucent appearance on unprimed wood grain. This could look cool though, if that's what you're going for. Hope that all helps! Best of luck on your guitar!

@@KatLiepinsArt Thanks much! I've seen a lot of softer stuff using watercolors and colored pencils so i'm thinking it is a matter of your style as an artist "and then cover it to protect it". Your video really allowed me to open my mind to just bringing my art and painting to the board and not worry about it being wood, but I love oils because i can blend so acrylics are a bit scary for me. Perfectionists...!

Mezcla de epoxi? Cantidades?
@KatLiepinsArt Жыл бұрын
I would suggest having about a pint of epoxy on hand if you plan to do 1-2 coats. It’s always better to mix a little more than you think you’ll need so that you don’t run out mid pour. Hope that helps!!!

Hiii, I’m very new to procreate. How do we determine what size & resolutions to set in procreate for skate deck dimensions? I appreciate your help in advance.
@KatLiepinsArt3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gigi! I used a skate deck template file from threadless.com. Then, set the art board to the outer dimensions of the template and I like to make sure that the resolution is at least 300 dpi so that I can make super high res reproductions of my art on skateboards, and art prints, etc. If the resolution is too low, your printed products will look fuzzy or pixelated. Feel free to shoot me a DM on IG if you have more questions. I hope this helps! 😊

Questioning if all of these artist nowadays went to art college just because of the tablet using
@KatLiepinsArt2 жыл бұрын
I hear you. I had a hard time with the idea of leaving paper and pencil to try tablet for awhile. I’m kind of old school that way (we never used tablets to draw when I was in college- I sort of believed it was cheating). I finally decided to consider it another tool in my arsenal, just like different paints, brushes or pens and pencils and enjoy the massive upside of having a digital file of my work. Prints and merch can be more easily created as another stream of revenue from my original “sketch” when I work this way. I don’t think using the tablet is better, just different. ☺️

@@KatLiepinsArt Question, if I wanted to keep the color of the wood in the background, would clear gesso work well? I have an idea but I don't want to cover the whole wood texture, I want it apart of the image.
@KatLiepinsArt2 жыл бұрын
@@s7121n9s I have to admit, I don’t have any experience with clear gesso but, if you’re not going to paint on the wood that you want to show, I wouldn’t see a reason to prime it with gesso. Also, if your paint is opaque (not translucent or see through at all) you can probably paint directly on the sanded board (make sure to remove dust with a tack cloth) or you could gesso (clear or white) specifically where your imagery will be painted (see my Painting a Sweet Skateboard Art video for how to do this) to make sure the porous wood doesn’t suck up too much of your paint and your colors are vivid as possible. Will you be applying a epoxy resin varnish? If, so there are some other tips we should chat about before you start pouring.
