I was told owls interbreed. I think I read that too somewhere. The owl which we do no have, you might is the one that looks like the Great Horned OWL but is seen in UK mostly, and has the ORANGE EYES , Darker feathers, also looks larger. Ever do that one? I do not have a camera, or know anyone who takes photos, so this is why I paint the ones I have seen in the state I live in. 344 known to been seen. The Barn Owl use to be common, but due to less and less farming, the barn owl is seen closer to Lake Superior, Canada and some parts of Europe. A friend found an OWL on the ground alive, but wing sheered off, due to the slice and dice turbine. There were other birds dead on the ground.

I haven't ever done the Eurasian Eagle Owl, but perhaps one day that can be on the easel for me. I also hope to one day paint a Barn Owl, though I haven't seen one in the wild yet as their range typically does not go as far north into Canada where I live. Also, if you're in need of reference photos, check out the website wildlifereferencephotos.com/index.php - as they have a good selection of photos specifically for artists to use as reference, that aren't really expensive. I've used this site the odd time I'm not able to photograph the animal myself, or the photos I've taken aren't high enough quality to paint from.

Would you post some videos froam it's feathers painting?
@JosephKoensgen3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I don't have any video of me painting the feathers, but I hope to continue to do more in the future showing different parts of my painting process, and I've definitely got more ideas for owl paintings in the future!

Great job.would you say the numbers of those tiny brushes that you used for eyes?🙏
@JosephKoensgen3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'm using a round 0, and for the reflection in the eye I'm using a round 18/0, which is a very fine brush. I'm also going to be putting out a video soon about my brushes and paint, which will have more info about what brushes I'm using a bit about how I use them!

Beautiful as always Joe! Have you always worked in acrylics, or do you oil paint as well? I have finally gotten out my oils again after many years away... I agree with you about the eyes - the most important part to get right imho. Your work is amazing.
@JosephKoensgen4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I have always worked in acrylics for my wildlife art. I've tried some oils for a few impressionistic landscape stuff, but that's only been a few times. The eyes are so important, and one of my favourite things to do!!

Do you have a tutorial on doing the entire great grey owl?
@JosephKoensgen Жыл бұрын
I apologize, I don't have the full owl. But I can see about filming that the next time I paint a Grey Owl.
