It’s so funny that I started painting the same way. I just wanted to decorate my home and could not afford the art I wanted so I decided to DIY it. I fell in love with paint. That was10 years ago and I was 55. I started with acrylic and abstracts then moved onto paint pouring then figures and landscape then to resin then soft pastels, then to watercolor ( the most difficult but I love it!) now I’m teaching myself oils and omg it’s the easiest! I learned it all through KZbin. I have sold quite a bit to coworkers friends and family. But I’m retired now and all I want to do is paint. I love your decorating and your art!! Keep up the good work!

I work as a "true" artist and you are doing everything exactly how you need to for you with GORGEOUS results! There really are no rules or "right" steps. Create in the way your heart speaks to you and you will never go wrong ♥ (edited to add: I placed the word true into quotation marks only as a reference to your comment. I work professionally as an artist and illustrator, but anyone who has a passion to create and follows through with the action of creating IS an artist ♥) Jenn ~ Old Maple Hill Farm

Wow, this is so incredibly sweet and encouraging to me. Thank you so much! I never want to claim to be a professional since so many put so much schooling and training into their profession, but this has truly been such a good hobby for me! Thank you again!

@@PineandProspectHome Andrea - it doesn't take special schooling, it takes the courage to use the creativity and gifts that God has given you. I am a self taught artist. I have had no formal education past the 12th grade and I have been working as a professional artist for almost twenty years now. You ARE an artist ♥

@@EJNilsson Excellent words... “it does not take schooling... it take the COURAGE TO USE that gift God has given us. I could take a painting class and not come out with the results Andrea does. She has the feel, vision, touch to see an outcome. She amazes me ! I love her work!

I agree- I am an artist as well. You are considering all the right things as you are painting- lighter toward the horizon, darker in the foreground, where the light is coming from etc. I’m wondering if you’ve watched some tutorials maybe? I had a little art training- went to nursing school and signed up for art classes as a stress relief- that should have told me something haha! We all learn our own process, no matter what we learn we have to learn how to apply it, and in doing so we create our own process & style. The Lord definitely gives talent but it’s up to us to use it , to hone our abilities. You are doing great, especially since you started a year ago then took a long break! I would highly encourage taking an online course or two. Teachable has a ton of artists, skill share too. You tube is full of free tutorials! And don’t forget Bob Ross! Your paintings are lovely- keep doing it!

One of my favorite people, Susan Branch, picked up a paintbrush for the first time around age 40 and painted some flowers and within two years she had watercolored and illustrated a cookbook and now she’s very famous and respected as an artist. There are people gifted to do things they never find out about. You clearly were born with a gift to paint and just didn’t know it. I’m so happy to see this because I want to give it a try! I’ve always wanted to paint but never had much success. I am a hand lettering artist and paper crafter and I have all the paints and all the things so this video has given me the confidence to try! Thank you!! Love and hugs.
