Thank you so much for bringing us into your studio. You have improved my blending and my skies so much from just watching a couple of your videos. I hope to learn some more of your mixing techniques by watching your palette work. I also am watching how you are working your brushes. So many details to pay attention to in these videos.

I became a fan of this man when I saw one of his painting in the Realistic Watercolor Group in Facebook. He is a great hyper-realistic painter no matter the medium. However, he is even greater as a watercolorist. Thanks for sharing part of the secrets of your magistral creations.

This is just awesome! And I belive that further on the video making will become more easy for you. One request though is that you perhaps could mention what color or mix you are using. But that is just a personal request. It is pure gold to watch. Me and my family just got home from our cabin and I could not wait to see these new videos. 👏🏻👍🏻

Hey Steven! Awesome work you're doing! I know me and so many others are so so appreciative of the time you are taking to make these videos/tutorials. One question that I wonder about when watching you paint the sky is why not use a bigger brush? Does it really matter since your doing thin layers at a time?
@Stevenkozar
@Stevenkozar 4 жыл бұрын
I use the biggest brush that I can and still get the amount of control I want. A bigger brush could have been used in some layers, but I used a smaller one for a little more control.

Hi Steven, It sure is time consuming creating these videos, but I find them so helpful. I was wondering if applying thin layers, allowing drying time in between, helps to avoid granulation with the Ultramarine Blue? Thanks.

Granulation still occurs with thin layers. (Darn it!)

TIP : To keep masking fluid from getting clumpy, put glass beads in the jar till the fluid level rises to the opening of the jar. Next put a piece of cling film on top. Make sure it is also touching the fluid, the goal is to prevent any air from getting inside the jar, or being in the jar as air is what causes masking fluid to clump up. Every time the fluid level goes down just add more beads. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much! I use a handful of different brands that are all professional/archival; I'm not convinced of any one brand as being "the best." I'll do a complete color video to go over specifics ASAP.

With so many layers, how do you avoid paint lifting from previous layers?
@Stevenkozar

Once it's dry and the pigment settles into the paper it doesn't lift off, unless I really dig in with the brush.

I found rubber tip brushes pretty useless for masking fluid applying... soaped small synth brush works best for me... also I'm pretty scared with amount of masking fluid you apply ... I do it as thick as possible to avoid sucking it to the paper too much (had some troubles with it few times - when it was completely unremovable ... it was too thin and sucked almost completely inside paper... )

Sometimes if there is a purple pink hue in the sky I like to use ultramarine pink or cobalt violet light.

Hey Steven! Great video, thanx for sharing. I was wondering if your sky painting technique is wet over wet, or if it's dry brush or a mix of both. Do you add layers of color in order to enrich your tones? Thanx.
