I've used those basing kits before and was always a bit disappointed by how flat the details looked but that marbling MASSIVELY improves them. I think that the extra surface detail counteracts the flatter looking parts and makes them look much more interesting. Great job and good luck with getting the rest of the models painted up before the weekend, looking forward to seeing everything pull together.

Have you considered lace? I've seen it used on cars in the past, they lay the lace over the surface to be painted and then airbrush over the top. Whatever pattern is on the lace gets transfered in silhouette onto the surface. You could get some amazing results on bases. I can't wait to get my airbrush, roll on my birthday on the 13th of next month 🥳

Wow, great new technique! You could also play around with the idea of having one metallic vein on each base, they also might do really well if you added something glowing for a cool lighting effect, and use the dark blue color of the base as an underpaint for the shadows on your army.

You could drybrush, apply wash with an airbrush then lift it back up with isopropyl to highlight. You have to be gentle because the isopropyl can eat through the base color too but it gives a mottled look that can add some tonal contrast into the highlights.

Absolutely man, sounds like you maybe got them too 'wet', if there's enough moisture to cause a bond between the fibres and the base you'll get these issues, more, thin layers and you should be fine. Ironically however, I had this on a few bases, and drybrushed and washed over it just looked a bit like cracked rock, so I rolled with it :). I hope that helps? Let me know in another comment, YT is awful for conversation notifications, I miss a lot of replies to replies.

@@ArtisOpus Thanks for answer man ! I will keep that in mind. I have used rattle cans instead of airbrush, so I might try spraying from further away, in thinner layers (letting paint dry between passes). My last try was a lot better than the first one - only few tiny spots where I had to fix things (I was testing it on a round 60mm base).

Hey dude, it's not got a tank, it's an ancient Iwata Smart Jet Pro, wonderfully realiable, although personally if you're spending that much I'd add the £20-30 and go for the 'Smart Jet Plus' - it has a tank hidden in it's handle, very nifty. The main reason for using mine is that it's by my feet, and it's got a sturdy case, in case I'm clumsy :). It's not cheap, but it's 15years old, and has probably ran for about 3000+hours, I love it.
