Lovely technique of applying paint. Thankyou! Please would you show how to evenly space out the ghungroos in a jhumka to get a clean finish. What varnish would you recommend to protect the paint?
@nehagopinathpillai
@nehagopinathpillai 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Regarding equal spacing, try the method of putting the ghungroo beads in the opposite manner. Put it one bead, exactly opposite to that insert the other one. Consider this South and North. Now in between them place the other ghungroo beads, consider that east and west. So you have four beads clearly demarcating N, S, W and W. Place the rest of the beads in between. Hope you understand what I am trying to explain here. I don't use varnishes so I may not be the right person to suggest a noted brand.

Hi Neha.. This is Viji. First of all yours is the most inspiring of all the videos I've ever watched in creating terracotta Jewellery.. Will try out making the beads and follow your colouring technique as well. More than that I would like to know how you fire your jewellery indoors. It would help many of us to watch and learn from an expert like you. Amazed! Indebted for your time and flawless narration. Keep up doing the good work. You got a die hard follower in me 😊
@nehagopinathpillai

Thank you! I am glad you find the videos helpful. Regarding firing, I don't do it indoors neither would I recommend home based methods of firing terracotta jewellery. I get my pieces fired in an electric kiln in a studio close by. The firing is done for 8 hours gradually raising the temperature from 0 to 900 degrees C and then cooling it for another 8 hours. Once cooled, its removed, painted and assembled.
@nehagopinathpillai
@nehagopinathpillai 5 жыл бұрын
If I may suggest, please look for ceramic or pottery studio close to where you live and check if they provide firing services. Doing firing indoors can be unhealthy as the fumes are never good to breathe, and reaching temperatures as high as 900 degrees C is tough to attain. If done in an electric kiln (which all pottery studios must have) this part is much easier as temperatures can be programmed on the latest kilns that are available today.
@vijisuresh
@vijisuresh 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your quick response.. Just checked there is one closer to my place, a pottery and sculpting training institute. They have an electric kiln. Will check with them. Thanks again and I will keep watching this space. Looking forward for more videos.. I saw one video which has all your collections and one particular piece is riveting.. The one with a thread looped in..
@nehagopinathpillai
@nehagopinathpillai 5 жыл бұрын
@@vijisuresh that's great, firing temperatures would ideally vary based in the clay you use. The temperature I am referring to here is meant for natural clay (low fire earthenware clay, ideally best for terracotta jewellery). If you are into porcelain clay or any high fire clay temperatures would have to be raised accordingly. And thank you, the interwoven piece with a jute cord is a personal favorite!

I go to a pottery studio close by to get my pieces fired. It's fired in an electric kiln at temperatures between 800 - 900 degrees C for 8 hours and then cooled for another 8 hours. @nehagopinathpillai
@nehagopinathpillai 4 жыл бұрын
@@vidyasangariselvam9846 break down your dry clay into powder. Filter the powder via a sieve. Then add water and filter your clay. Your first process of filtering is only via a tea strainer. Clay consists of particles much smaller that can easily pass through a tea strainer. So you might have to filter out multiple times with a finer mesh. Do that till you end up with fine liquid clay. Then add this watery clay into a bucket and let it sit for 2-4 days. You will see that the clay stays at the bottom and the excess water is seen on top. Slowly and gently remove that water from the top and discard it. Then you can scoop out the clay and use a cheese /cotton /muslin cloth for the excess water to drain out. Let your clay firm up (if it's too sticky) and then knead it before using.

Hello Preethi, This is an unfortunate situation with paints. There are a few things you can try though. You can try diluted paint instead of thick. Try adding a little gold paint with some colors such as yellow and orange. Colors sticks on well to the bead and gives it a shimmer. Try adding silver paint with white.

I don't fire terracotta jewelery at home. I take it to a studio close by. its fired in an electric kiln at 800-900 degrees C for 8 hours and cooled for the same amount of time. I suggest you look for a pottery studio near you that provides terracotta firing services. Please don't use unproven home based methods to fire jewellery.
