In this video I am using Amaco Velvet Underglazes over a white slip, which I've applied to Standard 266 clay. After the bowl is thrown, I apply white slip to leather hard clay, bisque-fire it to cone 04, and then apply the underglaze design. As soon as the underglaze is dry, I will apply two coats of a zinc-free clear glaze, and fire to cone 5.
HERE IS THE LINK TO THE UNDERGLAZE TRAY THAT I USE.

I've been making and glazing my pottery for many years. I bought underglazes but didn't know how to use them. Your videos are so informative and inspiring! This is the spark I needed to keep making pottery. Thank you!

Hi. I love this bowl. I bought one of those things you use to add the liner. I haven't used it yet, but I plan to. I love the tips you give out throughout your videos, so thank you 🙂 I'm only a hobby potter, so I find them so helpful.

Thank you! And good luck with your line applicator. It takes a little patience at first, so do a simple design to start with. 😀

I love your work!! I have just watched four of your videos. Would love to know your favorite clear glaze? It appears that you are able to wipe off drips or boo-boos while wet or even dry. True or not? My pottery teacher and other people in my group do not use underglazes much and so have not done too much. That is going to change immediately. . I love colors but have never believed I could draw.I am inspired to try now , I have been involved in a pottery ministry started at my church since 2014 as the “coordinator” of the program , but not spent too much time increasing my skills since we have several people who are experienced and very artistic. But I am inspired to try. Thank you very much.

Hi Nancy. Thanks so much!!! ❤️ So happy you enjoying the videos. 😀 My favorite clear is Amaco's HF-9 Zinc-free Clear. This is for cone 5/6 firings. Underglazes are basically just clay and pigment. You can apply them to greenware or bisqueware. I prefer bisqueware, because I think they're easier to wipe off if you make a mistake. Experiment and have fun! :-)

Would it work to bisque fire at 06 and then fire at 06 again? That's the only temperature we get to use at my studio. Your works have been very inspirational to me. I've been coating a bisque fired piece with white glaze, then decorating with underglaze, then clear glaze and firing again at 06.
@WildAcornsArtStudio
@WildAcornsArtStudio Жыл бұрын
Yes, that would work fine, as long as your clay is designed to fire to cone 06. Are you using low-fire clay? Just check the label. The underglazes will be more vibrant at a lower temperature. Good luck!

Hi again :) I'm wondering why you don't use ultra white anymore and what do you use instead? I have 2 ozs of everything and once I decide which colours I use most, I will buy pints. I like painting daisies so white is going to be an important one for me. Thanks, Jan

Hello. Awhile back I had problems with a white underglaze bubbling when I applied it over the Standard 266 dark clay. I tried to figure out what had happened and talked with others who had the same issue. No one had a 100% conclusion as to why it happened, but it seemed like it was linked back to the Ultra White Underglaze. So that's why I stopped using it. I have not had the bubbling happen since then, but have not done a lot of testing either.

Hi I am a beginner and I can’t afford a lot right now. What color underglazes should I get for just starting? Blue yellow red green? I can mix to make other colors? You videos are so helpful to me. Thank you! I live by a somewhat loud rd and an airport too. So I understand the dust and noise at times lol. Again thank you for your videos.

Hello. If you can only buy a few underglazes to start out with, I would definitely go with....White, Red, Blue, Yellow, and maybe Black. Mayco makes an underglaze called, Fundamentals, which are cheaper than the Amaco Velvet Underglazes and they are beautiful glazes. I don't think their pigments are as concentrated, but it allows for more layering. Terri Kern, a well known potter uses Mayco Fundamentals, and her work is stunning!! She advertises for them. So check those out, you'll save some money. Thanks for watching!! :-)
