Nice tips. Glad the the clear protective coat finished clear. I tried with acrylics but when my spoons came in contact with rock or such it chipped off. I sanded off all the paint I had on them and the chrome finish that was on the williams wobblers so the paint will stick better then to clear chrome metal. Tbh im fishing a lake in the spring with a lot of white and brown baitfish so the gold white sanded chrome one looks pretty good as it haha. I'll just do some paint on the other ones and put the clear protective coat this time.
@TheMinimalistFisherman3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks! I was worried about the coat like you mentioned - it went on a bit cloudy and I was thinking "oh man I hope I didn't just ruin my work...", but thankfully it came out well. They both got some good use this summer and they have a few teeth marks in them, but that's what they're for, eh? What are you fishing for in the lake you mentioned with the brown baitfish? Clear water?
@4thLineAngling3 жыл бұрын
@@TheMinimalistFisherman yea its clear water. Will be fishing pike, walleye, lake trout and bass. Baitfish are suckers, rainbow smelt, lake whitefish, perch

@@4thLineAngling nice! I'm jealous... mainly bass around here in IL... I got the itch BAD and we have about 6 inches of snow and ice on the ground outside... spring can't get here soon enough. Good luck when you get out!

@@TheMinimalistFisherman Yea man pretty lucky forsure! I did a ton of research to plan a trip for my three buddies in May, literally dream of fishing at least 3 times a week lol. I'm super excited to be going during the spring spawn, bass won't be open but pike, walleye and lake trout will be. You can drop shot for walleyes lol and accidentally get into some out of season bass?? Throw them back of course.. If you ever get a chance you should make the drive to Ontario. Sault Ste. Marie is 8 hours from Chicago and has tons of backwoods resorts with multiple species lakes. I'm in north eastern ontario so still 6 hours to get there for us. Can't wait, I think I'll vlog it and send you some footage.

@@4thLineAngling that sounds great. If you take some video please hit me up with a link, I'd love to see it. I was able to get up to Canada to fish about 5 years ago, got into some seriously great pike and some walleye. We were WAY out in the boonies, but it was an awesome trip. Good luck - I hope you get into a bunch of fish!

When it comes to pike , leave the paint off and throw a shiny spoon. I’ve caught em on a spoon that had more rust than paint. I’ve caught them on a dinner spoon with the handle cut off.

I just cleaned up a bunch of spoons and all I used was a wire wheel on a table grinder got the paint right off no chemicals
@TheMinimalistFisherman4 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting approach - I mean as you could see I had a few... issues... heh. So the wire wheel worked well? Dust wasn't a big deal? Thanks for the tip!

Did it work? Did it work? Great video man. Wait until you start taking spoons from the drawer, and cutting and putting holes in them. That is when the trouble starts
@TheMinimalistFisherman11 ай бұрын
Worked like a charm!! I also really like that "drill holes in the spoons in the drawer" idea... my wife probably doesn't, but I think it's clever! HA!

I like these.... I LIKE THEM A LOT. I would try adding really fine Fluorescent Glitter to the 5 minute epoxy. But you did a great job man I love the splatter it looks cool. Give yourself a pat on the back you more than deserved it, say hi to the family and stay safe my friend 👍😷👍🏴

Nail Polish is a cheaper option that works great. Many colors to choose from plus clear coat holds up really well.

AJ, did I hear you say this whole thing was a result of the paint on the spoons had a bad interacton with Elaztech plastic? You sure have photo evidence that those kinds of lures catch the big toothy critters. Yours truly has some trout spoons that I've used every 25 years or so hahaha and some vertical jigging spoons that work good in the deep Ozark lakes in winter for bass. Good luck with your artistic creations, they look great. Don
@TheMinimalistFisherman4 жыл бұрын
Hey Don - yessir - so I had 2 spoons and a handful of plastics in a ziploc when I came home from WI last year. The Elaztech goofed up the other plastics and (very surprisingly) the paint / finish on the two Dardevles. It turned to goop! I mean I love Elaztech plastics so I'm not tossing them any time soon... but it got me thinking about a way to clean these back up a bit. Thanks for the kind words - and I'd love to see some of those trout spoons when you get them back out in 20 years :D haha! - AJ

What epoxy did you use
@TheMinimalistFisherman3 жыл бұрын
Hey dude - for this one we used a 2 part Loctite from Walmart - dried perfectly clear. Be careful you don't grab the yellow or smoke ones. I don't remember what they were called exactly, but those ones did NOT dry clear.

Did the paint chip when fishing with them? Very excited to try this
@TheMinimalistFisherman3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! So far so good - although I only got into a few pike with these last summer. It was way too hot to catch them in the shallow weeds where we were at in Wisconsin. I'll be putting them to work in about a month again though. The ones that did bite didn't beat them up too bad. Give it a shot!

If you did all that hard work, and lose your spoon to a snag. I bet, you will be 100% more pissed than buying one at a store. LoL.

HA! Very true. The other side of that coin though is that pike and muskie caught on one of these bad boys are way more gratifying than that store-bought spoons. So it's a trade off. Good luck and tight lines!

I agree - if I was only doing the one spoon. However with the supplies, I have been able to do a ton - so I agree that the cost is an issue unless you plan to do this again and again... or, if you're willing to pay to have a project like this to work on. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate the feedback. - AJ
