@@SonicSledgehammerStudio 100%. in fact you helped me pull the trigger on getting back into the hobby in 2018 with kill team. your GSC.. dude.. thing paintjob seemed easy enough for my decade-and-a-half rusty mitts to replicate, and I've kept in since then :) gained an easy sub that day

Gotta second the huge help. In my case, he gave much-needed inspiration, ideas, and encouraged me to break the "rules" I thought mini painting had. Like you, I hadn't painted in about a decade and a half, and when I picked it up again, I fell into the trap of batch painting. I was utterly unsatisfied within a few months and doubtless would have stopped painting again if I hadn't seen his killteam videos. His ideas helped me overcome that - and introduced me to new mini lines that I've utterly fallen in love with. Now I'm staring at a full killteam made of Anvil Industries minis and more Frostgrave models than I can rightly use xD

Just watching for the painting the face is well worth it! The whole head has a realistic look to it and I never thought of using the shades on individual areas. Thanks for sharing this.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio2 жыл бұрын
Pleasure as always, John! I was well into painting for a while before anyone showed me the trick of shading and glazing specific parts of a face to deepen certain details and shift up the skin tone a little, so while it's a rarity I go the 'extra mile' on faces on the channel, it seemed appropriate here.

Very rarely comment, but this has got to be one of my favourite tutorials you’ve done! I’m a big fan of Fett’s new look and this model looks ace with the care you’ve shown it. The face in particular is really beautifully done!

Glad you like him! Trying to find juuust the right combination of colours to avoid mixing for the most part was an interesting challenge for Tem's skin tone, but I think it came close enough.

@@SonicSledgehammerStudio so far I feel like they had loads of ideas for things but didn’t know what to sink their teeth into. Not enough content for a series three mandalorian and just some ideas for the Boba Fett fanpeeps. I’m hoping all this prelude stuff comes with a fully fleshed out season two as I like the cast.

Saw your Twitter mention of Axanar - did you ever watch Star Trek Continues? After getting used to the "new cast" the episodes, music, feel and storytelling is just like TOS. Great viewing, all episodes are on KZbin - much better than the current stuff!
@SonicSledgehammerStudio2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I've found it really hard to get past the 'new cast' aspect. It's strange, but when they've made sure that everything else is as screen accurate as possible, it only makes the difference in the cast all the more stark. I'm sure they're very well done, but I couldn't manage to sit through a whole episode - too uncanny for me!

Beautiful mini, if only these modern marvels such as 3D printers had existed when I started the hobby!☹️ P.s. did Contrast/Speed Paint blacks aren't better for imitating texture?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio2 жыл бұрын
They're quicker, but by painting and layering up I get a lot more control over the highlighting effect. Contrast would certainly work, though!

If you're burning out on the videos maybe change it up a bit, try a new technique or pull out your airbrush? Maybe make a video about 3d printing?

I did a couple of videos on 3D printing a while back - they didn't get much traction at all. I'm honestly not sure what I could do that hasn't been covered by others already, 'about 3D printing' is a pretty wide topic.
