the hahnemühle watercolor sketchbooks are what you probably need! I'm using one right now, they work very well with ballpoint pen, graphite, colored pencils, watercolors obviously, but they also take gouache and acrylics! I have multiple acrylic gouache paintings in my current one, it's wonderful!

Kira, full sincerity mode, I want to say that you sharing your gorgeous art, the process for it, and little bits and pieces of your life are always bright spots of beauty, levity, and much needed humor. It's fair to say that life is rough for most (if not all) of us right now and it often feels overwhelming or that the tunnel just keeps going without any light in sight. Your content feels like coming up for a breath of air because sometimes we really need a laugh or a bit of artistic wonder to do little resets on bad, spiraling thought patterns or hopeless feelings. So thank you for painting over the abyss, the void, the nihilism and despair of life with cats and ladies with swords. Seriously. It helps.

I'm so glad that somebody elses comfort colors are blue, purple, and pink together. Everybody else is so diverse making all sorts of crazy contrasts but every other time I pick up my sketchbook or my coloring book im just like- blue purple pink pretty markers pretty colors colorful PRETTY COLORS PRETTY PRETTY *PRETTY MARKERS GO BRRRRRR*

I really love this style of Cover painting! One little thing: Your camera picks up the flickering of the light (e.g. 4:39) and it would be really nice if you'd put a waring for people with epelepsy/migraine there

As a sketchbook rec; I feel like talens art creation sketchbooks and sakura sketch notes are ones that I tried and seem to do pretty well with a lot of mediums. Sure the paper crinkles bc it’s not too thick but it never ripped on me. The paper is definitely on the smooth side (I‘m mentioning it as you mentioned as one of your main concerns) +ball point pen does pretty well too (one of my most used mediums too :D)

I recommend using sketchbooks that are meant for mixed media! My absolute favorite sketchbook is the Canson XL Mixed Media sketchbook. But if you want another sketchbook that lays down flat and isn’t spiral-bound, I like the SoHo Urban Artist Brick Sketchbook (mixed media; there’s different types of paper) I’m using this one currently, and the paper from both sketchbooks are almost identical!

Grumbacher in and out mix media sketchbook!! It's great, I'm obsessed. I'd recommend putting book board on the cover bc it honestly just falls apart, also puttibg fabric over the spine to keep those pages safe. Orrrr, you could just steal the paper out and make a new sketchbook with it. Because, wowowow!! The paper is gorgeous. I've never found a medium it can't take, and it's great with pencil! It doesn't smuge a whole lot like other cheap brands I've tried. Good luck finding a sketchbook!

My marker recommendation is the tombow water based markers. I love coloring something, then being able to blend it with a water brush!

Rendr sketchbooks might be something you’d like to try. I’m not sure how they do with paint and watercolors though. They’re great for heavy marker layering however! Not a single bit of bleed through for me. I’ve also seen sketchbook tours from people who’ve used it and they’ll have so many back to back marker illustrations.

Would recommend canson xl mixed media rough sketchbook… handles poscas, acrylic, gouache, and even watercolor like a champ with no bleeding and no warping. Minimal bleeding on alcohol markers. One complaint is that colored pencils do not work at ALL with this sketchbook but I don’t like them anyway haha. The best sketchbook for me. I love using a wide variety of mediums and being able to cover up art I don’t like… I can cover a bad watercolor painting with a thick layer of acrylic and the paper still doesn’t warp. I spilled an entire glass of water on the fifth page and you literally cannot tell. I swear, if you need a heavy duty sketchbook for painting (especially for things like gouache and paint pens), this sketchbook is the one for you! Not for dainty charcoal or colored pencil art tho

just some recommendations here: sketchbook- I’d recommend the Illo sketchbook, whilst I’m not using one right now, I’ve had a couple in the past and they hold up really well with all materials! The only thing is, they can be quite expensive, there only purchasable online, and can take quite a while to arrive. sketchbook- I also recommend any stilman and burn sketchbook, they have a great variety of really good quality sketchbooks, and unlike the Illo sketchbook they have a better price range ( depending on where you get them) Markers- I’d recommend tombow markers, they’re basically just a more sophisticated crayola marker. There water based, and if activated by water can turn into watercolour. They also have a very extensive colour range!

For sketchbooks i really recommend the Strathmore 400 series drawing book !! It’s got blue details on the cover card thing so don’t mix it up with the other Strathmore drawing books. But it’s really nice paper, with a good thickness for paint and watercolour, markers do bleed through but not terribly and it comes in 2 sizes ! Love your art so much

The strathmore visual journal (140lb watercolor) it really good! I can use both sides no problem. The paper is thick and doesn't have much texture for cold press! I just use watercolor so I'm not sure about markers

Ohuhu mixed media sketchbook are really nice with watercolor and pens. But for watercolors the brand “artify” is really good!!!

for the crayola supertips, I actually do semi-finished sketches with them, sometimes them only, and if you want a lighter color you can just use a brush and a bit of water and use them as much less messy watercolors. they work surprisinly well, and it's how I make al of the lighter skintones. also I would love something like an owl house themed sketchbook session I would love to see the characters and the world in your style

You should definitely try tombo brush markers, they are water based and come in sooo many colors. I really love them for blocking spaces and for semi finished sketches. Loved the video! I love your painting style😊

The Hobby Lobby Artist’s Touch brand liners work AMAZINGLY WELL with alcohol markers. I’ve been able to do sketches in pencil, line, and then color with my copics and they literally NEVER smudge or fade. I can’t recommend them enough.

Canson the wall is my fave sketchbook paper. It's the special marker paper that's bleedproof but it also takes other media well like gouache and acrylic and feels really smooth like hot press paper. The only annoying thing about canson the wall is it's ringbound (which i'm not a fan of) so i just take the paper apart and bind my own casebound sketchbooks myself

I would def recommend Parker Ink Refills (or any pen that uses parker ink) if you still want that ballpoint pen type of feel, its been one of my favs that hardly blends or bleeds with my alcohol markers! There might be a tiny bit but Its easy to go over or ignore.

I think a hot press watercolor sketchbook would work well for you. I don't have any specific brand recs but something with 140lb hot press paper, then the paper would be super smooth for your pen work but also nice and heavy for wet media

Oh i highly recommend viviva colors mix media sketchbook, it has nice square format (19x19 cm)paper is rather smooth and from my experience it can take watercolor and gouche almost without warping plus it doesn't soak all the juice from alcohol markers either :)) also (in doofenshmirtzs voice) curse you prickly alpaca, now i wanna paint but i need to study physics :((

The cover looks incredible, I love that lineless style 💜 Sketchbook Recommendation: Global Art Travelogue watercolor journal, I think by Speedball - it's reasonably priced, not super high quality but has handled anything I've thrown at it, with only mild buckling. I'm not sure how it will handle alcohol markers, but it's been great with everything else. For me anyway ^^'

I primarily use watercolours in my sketchbook, and have yet to find a multimedia sketchbook that doesn't warp the pages lol. The least multimedia sketchbooks I've had for warping has probably been the XL canson multimedia one, and the strathmore vision mixed media sketchbook, but both of these I filled out years ago and I have since learned how to use them better so with my current water usage I don't think they'd be that good. As can probably be expected, my moleskine watercolour sketchbook isn't super warped now, but it might be because it's been in a bookshelf for like 2 years. It worked pretty well for pen sketches and stuff though. Unfortunately it might be a case of finishing the sketchbook and then keeping it pressed flat for ages to flatten out the pages?? Watercolour just warps so so much. Love the video btw!! Sorry, I really love sketchbooks and have opinions hehehe. (I liked US art supply watercolour book for watercolour painting, and pen sketches were pretty okay, but it does have kinda textured paper. Kind of minimal warping though??)

if you're lookin' for sketchbook recs, currently I've been using the illo square sketchbook, I find that it works fairly well with things like acrylic paint, its ok with watercolors, and it's good for markers and pens, and it's also decent for price as well !
