You can use aqua gloss from alclad to clear coat the molito. It knocks back the shine a slight bit, but you can handle it the same day.
@Groundeffected2 жыл бұрын
I have tried that. But if you don’t let it dry long enough it will make the shine dull I’ve found the resistance is good enough on the molotow once cured though.

Great job as always Brent. FYI Tamiya paints come in both acrylic & lacquer, the X series is lacquer and the XF series is acrylic. I just watched a video from a modeler who compared Molotov to AK Super Chrome and GSW Chrome and GSW was the clear winner. It gave the same finish but with less drying time and it can be handled after its dried. Going to give it a try myself!
@Groundeffected2 жыл бұрын
I tried the gsw one as well. I found the molotow to be shinier. And it’s touchable but after a few months once you’ve forgot about doing it hahaha 🤣

I think the molotow is an ink and not a acrylic , because their are two brands of molotow that they make one for acrylic pens and one for regular pens .

I'll most certainly give it a try. I did a Quicksilver from Silverhawks last year, but the clear coat darkened the chrome, and kind of dulled it a little. I didn't use molotov cause I could not find it near and affordable. I said on the clock app chrome was the bane of my existence...😆

I'm using this technique(which is super dope btw) on some metal for Magneto (6 inch scale dio), Did you use any extender/reducer? I'm not sure if it's b/c I am using the marker vs refill or if they changed any ingredients but it seems to start chunking up in my airbrush with chrome bits pretty quickly, I'm having to clean it quite often, which is a total nightmare btw. Perhaps the time it takes me to transfer out of the marker, into a dropper, and into my brush allows it to dry? Idk, any advice would be helpful though, thanks!
@mrexpendable12322 жыл бұрын
would inks have done the same job as the tamiya blue over the metal?
@Groundeffected2 жыл бұрын
Um. Yea if you have one that’s a bit more glossy. Some inks have a matt medium in them and that wouldn’t make the effect you’re looking for. Wish I had purple for this but I had blue felt like it was a good choice at the time. I accept my choices even though I wished I chose different. Lol

For the clear blue, did you put a top coat over it or it's a top coat itself? I'm glad to see the lacquered thinner didn't react with the Molotov paint. I will be doing the same thing as you. Solid advise on not touching it for awhile.

No coat on top before the blue. Just let the blue go on. My thought was that it would blend with the coat of chrome rather than sit on top of it.

Never use Molotow Chrome, I have a piece I painted months ago and it rubs off, use Green Stuff World Chrome Brush version with an airbrush. Once it dries it’s ready to go, looks just like Molotow.
@Groundeffected2 жыл бұрын
Maybe your prep wasn’t right for it? It’s rock solid on all my models couldn’t rub this off even if you tried it dries really hard. I have green stuff chrome it was ok but can’t be polished like the molotow can. I’ve shipped many models with molotow on swords etc, it needs a week to dry but when it’s dry it’s rock hard defo can’t just rub it off.
@TheIcemanModdeler2 жыл бұрын
@@Groundeffected I just poured it in the airbrush and applied it heavy, dont remember if i thinned it with IPA but it rubs off regardless how many weeks or months i let it set and a lot of people have the same problem with it.
@Groundeffected2 жыл бұрын
@@TheIcemanModdeler yea I don’t Know what you’re doing differently cos I do it exactly the same and you not getting it off the model unless you physically scrape it with a knife. Even then it’s not easy to come off. Painted swords and blades that were wrapped and sent in post many times not had a single complaint about paint rubbing off. And the silver surfers I’ve painted are solid chrome with no chance of rubbing off and I didn’t even clear coat it. I never thinned it at all.
@TheIcemanModdeler2 жыл бұрын
@@Groundeffected I dont remember but does it work directly in a 0.5 needle? I always use Duplicolor primer, maybe it's not sticking to that. Got one unopened marker left over so i'll do another test on different objects and spoons but like i mentioned, other people have the same issue with it. Weather is also a factor.
@Groundeffected2 жыл бұрын
@@TheIcemanModdeler I live in England so it’s humid and the weather sucks hahaha for a base I used Vallejo surface primer and sprayed the molotow through .5 needle it flows easy no blocking or tip drying either o do layer it liberally and then don’t touch it for a week or longer cos it takes ages to fully dry and then when I do touch it and it leaves finger prints I just polish with a cloth ( mostly just my Tshirt)

Tamyia are realy acrylaques. They're and acrylic/lacquer blend which is why you can thin with lacquer thinner and acrylic thinners. I use Mr. Color thinner to thin Tamyia paints and then they act like a lacquer paint. They do take a little longer to dry but they atomize and spray a he'll of alot better thinned with lacquer thinner. Painting chrome sucks and I stay away from it at all costs. Lol
@Groundeffected2 жыл бұрын
That’s good info. I knew it wasn’t a proper acrylic because of how it behaves. I figured it was more of a lacquer hence the use of lacquer thinners but that probably was luck back when I tried it at first hahaha. Man if I’m gonna do chrome again it’s gotto be like a 2 month project. Paint the chrome and forget about it for 2 months. But also needs a vacuum to be kept it because dust omg dust would be a nightmare. Hahaha thanks for watching again my dude. Love your input too!!
