OK....I just subscribed. I'm impressed by your old school techniques! At 57 years of age it really does my heart good to see a young man building his skill sets from the ground up, or just choosing to use the old school methods and techniques. Still wish you would slow the vid down just a bit, but thats just my opinion. Keep it up!

Thanks for all your comments, I'm glad my videos are appealing too older people as well as people my age (who I aim my videos at). I realise my videos are very fast and in my more recent ones I've slowed them down a bit and used calmer music which helps. Anyway, thanks again for your input, I'll see if I can make my next video slower (whenever I next have time to make a video haha)

Please allow me to chime in. You can always choose to play the video at a slower speed - and on PCs you can use the "," and "." keys to go through it frame by frame. Hope this helps. P.S. age 55 here :-)

This is fantastic. Another method I saw was someone using a brush to "dab" at the model. Same reason to create that soft air brush look on the lines.

Fantastic as always. I actually prefer your blending method with cotton swabs (buds) in many places over the usual airbrushing. Since it is done by hand, there is an organic, real life look to it, which I am missing from many an airbrushed model, even if done expertly in several stages and combined with washes and other weathering methods. Love your work!

You seem to be one of the very few people (like myself) who uses handbrushes even for the main body of the kit. This is encouraging. There aren't many of us, and I find it hard to get painting tips, since almost all of them are about airbrushes. Interesting about the cotton buds and the 50/50 mix of paint and thinner for blending colours. I will have to try that.

Hey Owen, as a modeller of 9 years I can assure you that using anything except for an airbrush will not get the desired look. My first airbrush cost me £13 including a cheap compressor second hand. I loved this brush as used it for 3 years without any issue. I then bought an iwata silver line pack and no word of a lie, I only used it twice. It was so hard to use with so many adjustments available and was hard to clean as I was worried that my £200 investment would be ruined. I just haven't got the heart to use it. I have since been through only 3 cheap Chinese brushes and are great after a quick polish to the needle and some beeswax acting as a better nozzle O ring. I really love your videos and my son too. We would love to see you also progress in your modelling career through investing in the one tool every modeller should have. Thanks a lot Eric statham. Check out my sons video on my channel of his 1:24 scale spitfire. I was blooming well impressed with the final product
@quickkits
@quickkits 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric, thank you for your message :) I've considered getting an airbrush in the past and fully understand it's advantages, however, brush painting is something I love and what I have built the channel on (there are other factors too, such as uni accommodation etc.). If I were to get an airbrush not only would my channel become less unique but there would also be a lot of disappointed subscribers. I hope that explains my reasoning a bit. I'm very glad you and your son enjoy my videos :)

Nice vid and an interesting brush technique. I have a question do you choose not to use an airbrush or is it more of a budgetary constraint? The only way to buy Tamiya kits is from Asian Ebay dealers. You will find that you can purchase these kits at 40-50% less than you can from your local hobby store. Well done...subbed.
@quickkits
@quickkits 9 жыл бұрын
TacticalJackalope I don't use an airbrush for a few reasons, one yes is the cost, another is that I can't be bothered with all the masking you need to do :') and also I make and film the models in my bedroom, and I don't really want to be airbrushing in there, and there's no where else in the house I could do it. Finally I want to aim my videos at a beginner audience as much as possible and encourage younger people like myself to try the hobby, and most won't have airbrushes. And thanks for the tip about buying the kits and inviting me to the group!

Thanks for the video! One question, why aren't you using surfacer before painting? Or have I missed it? Soon I will be painting my Ferdinand using brushes, and I'm wondering if i should use surfacer before it.

+MrKapeleone I don't usually use it, I find that just washing the sprue in warm soapy water allows the paint to stick well enough

May I ask why you prefer paint brushing as opposed to airbrushing? It looks great, but I wanted to know why.

I enjoy using a brush and the challenge of replicating an airbrushed look, and also I want the videos to be accessible to everyone :)

I have a follow up question, I've built models but never started painting them until now. I want to paint all the old models I've made but since they are all glued together, I can't paint the parts separately. Any tips/differences for painting a fully completed model VS painting a model in pieces first?

WelshZeCorgi You'll have to be careful and probably use Tamiya masking tape on any clear parts, paint larger areas first and then smaller details last. You might want to remove any plane canopies (carefully) to paint the cockpits and then glue the canopies back in place

¡Increible!

Nice work. It's not that easy to get a good end pproduct without an airbrush.

Hi man, I just can say Whoaa O_o you have make a wonderful work. I have a question (sorry for my english I'm french^^) I bought today a a zero (the Japanese plane) and the Panther Ausf G. Whether you advice me ? Painting a room or a paint every once all the assembled everything? I 'm a beginner ^^ Thank you in advance and good luck

DereX77 Thank you! For the Zero: paint the small parts while they are still on the plastic sprue, before you cut them out. Then assemble the model, then paint the exterior. For the Panther: assemble everything (but leave the tracks off) and then paint it. Put the tracks on last. Hope that helps and the reply isn't too late! :)
