I love this work for its craft. However I miss the art. The artist is a fine craftsman, replicating the mechanical capture of the camera image. A great painting should reflect the artists response to the scene. It should evoke an emotional response. Capture something of a spiritual essence. Michael takes himself out of the equation and mechanically, with great precision and skill recreates a snapshot of the scene. Not trying to be harsh. I love the work and admire his skill

@@amlam9812 There can be a quality in painting that can't be seen in a printed picture. A printed picture is completely flat, but the paint in a picture can be applied opaquely. That can make it appear more 3 dimensional. Even if a painting is done in thin layers, the effect of light shining through every layer can make a picture seem to glow. Almost as if the light is coming from underneath.

I can't stop staring at this, can't stop replaying video, can't quit respecting the organization, color choices, careful sketching, camera setups, hours of taping that included brush dipping, tube squirts, breaks, tedious stroke after stroke, then the editing of tons of footage in several units: sneak peeks, 21 section lessons, KZbin video eliminating every tidbit not pertaining to brush strokes, figuring out the speed needed (creating the ghostly see thru hand) then music... Yet patient Mikey accomplished insurmountable task none of us would even lose sleep over. And there tis, powerful movement of water and currents captured perfectly. I revere the whole process. A process l used to have but allowed to slip away, am ashamed. Mikey refreshed my energy. Am gonna go grab my younger self and revel in it. Appreciate you in all ways Mikey. ♥️from🤠

I know how you feel. I haven't been able to start painting from his lessons yet, even though I am enrolled to take them, I have to clean out a part of the house but because of covid we can not do that yet. But I know that when I start I truly do believe that my first attempts will look like a three or four year olds paintings. But I too watch him and dream about the day that I can at least give it a try.

Yeah I agree I really dislike when people describe it as talent, it's as if they're disregarding the sheer amount of effort and time any sort of artist put onto their work Or ignoring the fact that these people spent years practicing and refining a skill They're most likely not thinking that way though, but it feels like that is the implication.
