Awesome! Reminds me a bit of the painterly grungy approach Craig Mullins took to halo.

Thank you, Rythaze, that's an absolute honor that my work reminds you of Master Mullins!

Hey Wes, I just want to let you know that seeing a new video from you in my feed is always a highlight in my day. I'm usually a silent viewer but idk, I just felt like telling you that. All the love in the world to you and your family. Thank you and stay safe. Cheers.

Frog, your comment made my month! I appreciate you very much, thanks so much for the continued support! And no worries about the "lurker" mentality of not leaving comments, I'm right there with you, haha! I"m just super happy that you enjoy the videos! I'll have a lot more timelapse stuff coming in the next few months!

Beautiful work Wes! I own Vitae but have never really gotten to grips with it, would be so cool if you could do a getting started tutorial on it. Also - Would love to hear your thoughts on the Clip Studio announcement

Thank you so much, Chris! Ohhh, a "getting started" primer video series sounds REALLY cool, maybe showcasing some basic tips and tricks for different softwares? Also, I will DEFINITELY cover the CLIP Studio Announcement in my new "Digital Painting Software Overview" I'm currently planning!

Not even two minutes into the video, and the art already looks fantastic. The music makes it even more awesome. 😯 Maybe I should try color blocking on just one layer. Although, I'm super worried I'd mess something up. 😅

Thank you so much, Messa, you're too kind! Definitely give color-blocking a shot, you may be surprised at the results! Sometimes I find it easier to "block in volume" like I did here, as I can relate the size of shapes a little better than I can relate the size and relationships of lines, if that makes sense.

@@ArtOfWesGardner You're very welcome, and thank you! The color-blocking with shapes makes sense a little bit. I'll definitely give it a try. 😊

This takes me back to the Halo 3 era where I learned how to use the interrnet and search for master chief paintings 😅

YESSSS that Halo 3 release era (well really, all of the first 3) really hit different!

Are you doing everything on the same layer?
@ArtOfWesGardner2 жыл бұрын
Yep! I basically blocked in my "coloring spaces" using the initial lines/sketch art, then went in with the greens and browns at different values, using a more wet loaded "oil" brush preset. I then grabbed a few of the palette knives, upped the level of Loading on it (so it would act as a nice mix between a blender brush and a standard brush) to start mixing in forms and in-between colors. Then it was just a matter of grabbing a sharper dagger oil brush and refining shapes!

It’s actually an interesting more realistic way of working. Paints can mix on the canvas and lay over the beginning sketches like normal. If it feels difficult once you get to a good checkpoint just duplicate the layer and lock it invisible so you can go back if things go bad.
