Thanks! I have a small white cottage with black shutters and trim. I hate what seems like a harsh contrast to me. I have been considering going gray on the shutters and trim (wrought iron)... if I do that, do I also need to repaint the white?

Just so you know, there is no law that says your trim has to be a different color. For sure, Black trim on a White house looks like crap. The three best looking houses in my neighborhood all are White houses with WHITE trim. Imagine that!

I'm cautious about painting my siding because I don't want to have to do it again in 5 years. How long does paint on vinyl siding last as a general rule? Does it depend of the quality of siding? What other factors will affect it's longevity? Maybe you could do another video on this? Thank you for this video.

With vinyl I’ve learned that you shouldn’t paint it a darker color than it currently is because it will draw heat and shrink overtime. Also, you shouldn’t paint it when it cold because in the summer it will expand and in between the siding it will show a line of the previous color when it expands. That’s just what I’ve learned so far. To avoid repainting often, you can do yearly maintenance checks and touch up as needed.

@@alexiswilson6077 Good point but I think you have it backwards. Painted in summer the siding has expanded in length. In the winter the siding contracts so where the siding overlaps may revel the unpainted vinyl. This will only happen at the overlaps. Painting similar colors should help to minimize this problem. @@andyeverett1957 You right I painted my 2 story home with sw vinyl safe, and I forgot to paint some the connecting parts and it show when it get 35 degree or lower. Make sure to paint that first and use spacer until the overlap dries. This is my second year since painter and it still look fresh. Neighbors ask if its new siding lol

I like a nice earthy slate gray instead of black, which can sometimes look bluish if you pick the wrong shade.
