Its not every day I get to watch a good process video, most are tutorials and such, but I believe its super important to know what brands people use to get the effects they show because not all paint reacts the same. Great job. I wish more people would make process vids.

WOW ..... what can I say ??? Great tutorial you have going here Adam, easy to listen to, no obnoxious back-ground music and best of all, your classic, %#&*-ups..... LoL.....Seriously though, I have watched countless tutorials on model making because I have just got back into it after a lay-away of a few years and needed brushing up on what to do and how. What I like about your lessons, is the fact that you 'fess-up' to your, %#&*-ups, and tell us how to remedy the situation..... The fact that I have watched so many of these instructional clips and found that no-one seemed to make mistakes, made me start to doubt my own capabilities.....LoL

When you were painting the shovel you said that it was too dark. I don't know if this will help, but what I do is first paint the shovel Matt black. Then I brush some Tamiya metallic grey over it. That's just my method. Just saying I only use black to set a base over the plastic color of my tools. A few good coats over the black with the metallic grey and you could achieve a good steel color. Hope my method will help you.

Nice little model Adam, like the weathering techniques and cool to see the paper under the tools painting, that technique has been around a long time. The part sticking up from the lower shield is the tail light.....you might want to paint the half circles red. One suggestion if I may...? The gun breech/slide could use a shinier silver color to bring out the wear more, it was very noticeable on the real guns.

+Adam Mann I don't think you need to worry about the white oil on the legs. I'm sure if it'd been left our in the field for a long time, being exposed to moisture and cold, it would accumulate all sorts of strange forms of erosion and discolouration.

As other viewers have said, an informative video and an interesting subject. On the subject of primer, it is more than just paint. For want of a better expression it 'grabs' the plastic so that it adheres well and provides a good key for the first coat of paint to adhere to.
@AdamMann3D
@AdamMann3D 9 жыл бұрын
+Stephen Westrip Thank you. I understand primers, but when I was getting in to this about 2 years ago there was just too much debate and primer is also not cheap, so I started just using black paint. I think I've come to the point where I need to invest in primer, just haven't quite done it yet.

I noticed the two videos on this 7.5cm gun are your only Tamiya kits, at least what I could find on your videos anyway. Are you not a fan of the Tamiya kits? I would say 75% of my kits are Tamiya, Dragon 20% and the balance is made up of Academy & MiniArt. I DO love those MiniArt diorama kits for scenery & details. You have some great videos my friend and I like your work. Take care, Bo.

+Texas Hi-Railer I started with almost exclusively Tamiya but have gone to mostly Dragon now. Tamiya stuff as awesome as it is (I love the engineering) requires me to do a lot of scratch building and updating to make them look as detailed as I want them to, and Dragon a lot of times at least back a few years ago would be ready to go out of the box. When I had just started doing models again about 2 years ago I participated in a group build for Panther and Panther variants. Here's a link to the build thread if you're curious, it's kind of what I'm talking about. The painting and finishing on this one isn't as good as I can achieve now obviously, but the build is okay. www.intscalemodeller.com/viewtopic.php?t=7125

For the steel on the shovel, I typically use around 6 drops of "model master" steel, and 1 to 2 drops of Vallejo burnt umber. Any steel would probably work, but I'm a creature of habit when I find something that works. Give it a mix, I think you'll like the outcome. EDIT: Almost forgot... dirty it up / bring it down with a dark wash :)
@AdamMann3D
@AdamMann3D 8 жыл бұрын
+Nate Howard Is that enamels you're referring to with the model master? I'll try it with an acrylic. The idea of adding brown to it is fascinating. Thank you.
@n8hwrd
@n8hwrd 8 жыл бұрын
The model master is, yes. I don't typically like any "shine" on my builds, but I find that it does give tools kind of a cool effect. I can't stress enough giving it a wash with a good flat black though. I prefer Andrea for my small detail washes.
@AdamMann3D
@AdamMann3D 8 жыл бұрын
Nate Howard A black wash? Never heard of that either. I will be trying this for sure. Don't suppose you have a video I can watch?
@n8hwrd
@n8hwrd 8 жыл бұрын
I would love to take credit, but I got the idea from Dave at Last Cavalry Historical Toys and Hobbies's series on painting figures with acrylics. I decided to take what he was doing, and add enamel for effect.. and boom, lol. It also made it easier to make small, 35 scale metals pop, in my easily humbled opinion.
@n8hwrd
@n8hwrd 8 жыл бұрын
As for the wash, that's just taking Andrea flat, and making a wash. A regular black (dark) wash would probably have the same effect..

I'm building, with a friend, an older Tamiya kit (70s) that got left outside and dried up a lot. I'm wondering, do waterslide decals "dry up"? They looked really faded and refused to budge off the paper when we were applying them, and when we pushed the brush harder, the decal practically disintegrated.
@AdamMann3D
@AdamMann3D 9 жыл бұрын
+RandomCanEHdian I would think yes. I believe that once they have been activated (by getting wet) once you have only that time to apply them where they need to go.
