Great vid. It was all good, but, IMO the best info was the blending angle and distance, the slight air pressure adjustment for the clear, plus the steps on how to clean the gun! Those are the bits of info that too many people skip or just miss. Thanks!

I am confused, I see in the video, he said to change the coupler fitting to the HLVP fitting. He didn't mention what type of air compressor he used, So is this new spray gun in the video is a HLVP spray gun, do you have to use a special HLVP air compressor, or can you use any regular air compressor. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but this is all new to me. Thanks
@1416vincent
@1416vincent 8 ай бұрын
@@phototec you can use any air compressor but you want one with higher level of cfm or at least more gallons so it can keep up with the air you will be spraying out the gun. The reason he said to use a HLVP fitting is because it has a bigger opening so more air can go to gun so you would want that fitting on your air compressor, both ends of the hose, and the gun. You can also get those fittings from harbor freight, they are called Merlin High flow quick coupler. Ps. He probably didnt mention the air compressor because he is in a paint shop and has a crazy good air compressor that nobody at home would ever have.

My 2 cents on the longevity: I've had the 1.0 for a year and a half now spraying sealer every day on an average of 6 or 7 jobs a day. The sealer I use is an old school epoxy thinned to desire. I LEAVE the epoxy in my gun over night/over weekends and clean it the following morning (don't judge me I'm testing this baby out) It has held up well and sprays the same today as it has when I bought it. I get a lot of shit for using a harbor freight gun but I've done over a million dollars worth of collision wprocess. this gun being one little step in the process The black coating on the air cap will come off over time but the gun body coating itself is nearly indestructible

I like the flow out, however, you should show us the finished work, de-masked, out in the sun, multiple angles to verify color match. That would certify your blending skills (which begin with mixing the paint, etc.). I would hire you just for the clean bench in the one shot...and promoting keeping the gun's exterior clean too! Well done, amigo!

I’m a young painter that’s learning something new as the days go by what’s the difference when you use fast medium and slow reducer (thank you for these very informative videos and tips helps me a lot )
@davesiringo7147
@davesiringo7147 9 ай бұрын
1)it effects length of dry(flash) times of your color coats. 2) in metallics, this can have an effect on color. A faster reducer will keep the metallic flakes in more of a "standing" position as the solvent will evaporate faster, whereas using a slower reducer gives the metallic particles more time to "lay down" in a flatter pattern. Since they lay flatter, the sun reflects from a flatter, more uniform manner, where the "standing" metallics will reflect from more random patterns. This will have an effect on color. 3) In single stage paint, it effects flow (how well it lays down absent of peel) Too fast and you risk peel and dry finish. Too slow and you risk runs. That's This why medium is a good starting point. This is a basic overview to help get you started. Any other questions, just ask.

This was a fun one to watch! Back in my pro-painting days, my daily drivers where: Devilbiss GTI millennium X2: 1 for basecoats / 1 for clears, SataJet 90, and A Handful of HF Purples [My 1 friend used a Sata-Digital and my 2nd friend used a high end Iwata] *So I've been around top tier guns.. They ran regular autobody/collision shops - I ran a 'custom shop', so they sprayed Martin Senour / PPG and I sprayed PPG / Alsa / Glasurit / H.O.K., One weekend, we each had a project, so went w/ our choice in Paint, but ALL Of US had to use our HF Purples! [Normally they were designated to primer guns for for shooting single stage urethanes] Anyways.. All said n' done, all paintjobs turned out well enough that if given a thorough wet sand / Trizact / buff / polish job, the average person wouldn't have known that they weren't painting using high end / high dollar equipment! 🤘😁 Also, back then [2012ish] I also grabbed a few of HF's airbrushes.. For the most part - They were what you'd expect.. Pretty Good - For the price.. My buddy took all of mine apart, mixed and matched a few components, and came up w/ a Frankenstein.. When used though was Just As Good As My High End Iwata! [I *might actually still have that thing kickin' around]

Duplicating 'factory orange peel'. Never thought I would hear that.... Another informative Brian review. The first paint job(Lacquer) I did back in the early 70's was on a 57' Studebaker Hawk using and old garage sale Craftsman gun and a pretty sketchy old small compressor. Came out pretty good cuz the customer paid me and gave me another job, but in the mean time I painted my 63' Sting Ray roadster which was a prepping disaster as I used a chemical paint remover and it attacked the factory filler. You wouldn't believe how much filler was used on those old Corvette bodies. Pounds and pounds of it. Took a lot of evenings and weekends to fix that mistake.

I wanted to know if you had some input on a good deep red color to spray that is a solid and a base clear. With the restraints of a mobile paint booth and small compressor and lack of a perfect air line filtration system I don’t want to attempt something 3 stage or even metallic. I feel like I’m already pushing it as it is painting an entire car in an inflatable booth.

I am not a painter, but I really enjoyed watching your video! QUICK QUESTION for you, though. I had a car painted many, many years ago, and the bumper was made of plastic. Not very long after painting, I noticed that the paint began to crack and peel off the bumpers - the rest of the car seemed to be ok, though. Could you tell me why that happened?

You can throw a tac weld on the swivel fiting and it fixes that issue

Lol. My coworker saw me watching this at lunch and started talkin Sh_t. "You dont need that Air guage." I said "He likes to control and adjust the air pressure." He said,"You do that on the gun." Then he said "You dont have to spray 45's. You can go up and down." Lol. OMG. See what i have to deal with.

Great video, that finish came out amazing! One question I always wondered about is are some clear coats more resistant to the sun than others and can you do a video on that.

You had me sold on the Black Widow but in the "products in the video" you have this > A610 Spray Gun, Half the Price of Black Widow, Performs just as good., < Now I'm confused and holding off on any purchase. haha.

I am a painting contractor, commercial and residential, industrial, and 5 years ago i began painting cars and trucks also, so when i use an airless a swivel is a necessity , that would drive me mad on a hvlp gun!

I know that's a really hard color to paint but it didn't totally match to my eye. I think your work look better than the factory paint.

Could you do a video of a color blend from the perspective of a DIY guy without the big body shop paint mixing station? Is it even possible for a DIY guy to get a half decent blend with nothing more than the paint code of the car?
@justinf9004
@justinf9004 9 ай бұрын
This may sound obvious, but the key is to have paint that is nearly a perfect match. Before you put any color on the car, paint and clear a spray out card and compare it to the panel you want to blend. If it’s not nearly identical, try a different variant.

There’s a paint shop near me that will mix paint for you if you give them a piece of the car. I normally send them either a wing mirror cover, or the fuel cap cover and get perfect matches back. Try that for sure man!

Used mine yesterday and today using PPG Envirobase. Sealer and paint is realllly good. Clear coat seamed like it lacked the power(i usually use a RP). Curious to see how it holds up. I will continue to use it everyday for sealer and base.

I'm no painter, I've only used a spray gun once in tech school almost 20 years ago. I have used air tools a lot in the 20 years since. I understand why you wouldn't like the guage swiveling right there at the base of the gun. Why not put a short lead between the guage and the gun? I'd think doing that would give the intended manuverability of the swivel while avoiding the annoyance of the gauge moving around right there. Maybe there is a reason that would not be a good idea. I'm genuinely curious since there is a possibility I'll be trying to DIY paint a project vehicle or two in the next few years.
