Just found your channel about a week ago because I recently got an offer from my neighbor who flips cars. He saw what I did for my wheels with rattle cans and asked me if I wanted to paint his cars. Now I am buying everything I would need to paint quick flips, starter everything. Harbor freight junk. But we have to start somewhere, and most of the reason I'm willing to sacrifice so much is because you gave me the confidence. I love your videos, and I have already learned so much. You are a great teacher!

Hello mate. II’m thinking to do that too! I’ve paintings my bumpers and, being silver, they’ve ended up not being a match to the rest of the car! Doh! Hearing that you”ve done it and happy with the results is inspiring me to give it a go. The bumpers turned out decent, so why wouldn’t the rest? Could you link me to see your vids of that please? You're so right about wearing gloves. I've seen countless DIY videos where the content creator immerses his hands in motor oil, transmission fluid, brake cleaner, WD-40, etc. and I'm sitting there cringing. These chemicals all have harmful ingredients that are rapidly absorbed through the skin. I personally wash my hands immediately if I should happen to get anything on them while working in the garage. And I wear gloves. So thank you for this.

Hello Brian thanks for all the videos. Idea for future videos: Compare different types of paints and how they work (different brands of paint, how they are mixed, how they turn out, cost vs durability, which work best with budget gun, mid-range or top end spray guns). I'm doing my first base/clear paint job and finding relevant info about this topic is difficult. And the paint makers I'm looking at have sites that are way too complicated. I've got a recommendation to use PPG or Sikkens.

Thanks for the video! I recently painted a fiberglass front bumper cover using your techniques, and it didn't come out as well as I had hoped. All my fault, of course. There were a lot of imperfections in the primer it came with, so the paint really didn't go on evenly, and some of the "blemishes" are still visible. (Note: I've also painted a spoiler, rear bumper covers, and two side rocker panels, and they all came out great, because I prepped properly first!). So, I want to redo the front panel. Should I just sand it down to the base coat, smoothing out the imperfections, and re spray and re-clear coat? Thanks, again!

This could be useful for my brother. His 1986 VW T3 Bluestar has failing clear coat on 80% of the roof plus 4 large square patches where the paint has either turned white (bus is metallic blue) or come away from some dodgy repairs. He originally wanted it painted then laughed at the quotes so bought himself a roll of gloss black wrap to cover the whole roof. Temporary fix for a few years. I wonder if he could get a decent finish? His previous DIY painting job was his VW bay window camper where he rattle canned the white door tops. Came out really good all be it a lot less area to paint than a roof.
@disoldman7210 ай бұрын
This is a lot more learnable than some of the other videos I’ve watched. I’ve been trying my darnedest to get a decent job from rattle can colour shift paint with unsatisfactory results. The whole panel gets ruined by a few wrinkled areas. After so many attempts I’ve stripped it down to original paint. I needed to address some rock chips so now I’m ready for colour coat. Even though I haven’t sanded past the original coat is it advisable to prime again or just go ahead with the colour coat. I’ve used both Tremclad and 2k gloss black for the base coat. This time I’m using the 2k gloss black for the first coat. Hopefully no wrinkles. Then the colour shift. The problem is that when I’ve laid down clear coats, the next day I will find some wrinkled spots. This is so frustrating. It invades my dreams. Have you any advice you could pass on to help me with this? I would really appreciate it.

Please do a similar video where the paint is OK and only the clearcoat needs to be re-done Like, the spoiler on my MIata had some spots with deteriorating clearcoat. I thought I could compound down to a layer of clear that was still good, but ended up picking up some paint color on my pad and stopped. The paint looks fine, so I think I just need to re-clear. Should I just wet-sand the whole spoiler with 600, mask it off from the rest of the car, then spray it with a can of 2K clear?
@PaintSociety Жыл бұрын
You’ll need to primer if the clearcoat is bad. No way around it.
@JesseOsby Жыл бұрын
@@PaintSociety Oh dang, ok. Is the issue that the new clear won't stick to the scuffed-up old clear? Or does the final result not look good because of the old clear being scratched and the new clear not perfectly filling in the scratches? Or something else?

Years ago, the Kirby vacuum company had a promotional video out there demonstrating the various attachments. One of the attachments is a sander and to demonstrate it they showed a guy sanding down his entire car and painting it in his garage with the Kirby paint gun. They show the car from a distance so the car looked great, and when they show closeups of how good the paint looked it was a different car. No one can find the video anywhere though. Not on KZbin or any other video hosting site. I've heard of a few guys trying to find it unsuccessfully. It's like it vanished into thin air
