Pakistan is going through its worst-ever phase as not only there is political instability but also economic crisis and the security challenges in the country. Once a darling of America, Pakistan now is virtually on its own. What ails Pakistan and why is that its allies and even "brotherly" Muslim nations are refusing to help it to come out of the crisis? Can India help Pakistan to overcome its present challenges? What is the future of India-Pakistan ties and what happens to issues like Kashmir and terrorism? Joining us is senior Pakistani journalist Wajahat Saeed Khan from New York in this new episode of HT Podcast with Aditi Prasad. Watch.

The argument that a destabilised Pak is not good for India doesnt hold any water in my opinion. In their better days, their focus was to bleed India through a thousand cuts, lets not forget. Due to their current economic situation, they are unable to focus their ill intent towards us, also being targeted by their other neighbour Afhanistan. They still not have given any credible assurance to the world how they will rise from their mess, in summary, India should watch closely from the side lines and see how the situation pans out . While Wajahat admits Pak needs India currently, the situation would have been totally different had they been in a better economic state, he would have been much more hostile even on the interview than the conciliatory mask he has to reluctantly put on now. Everything boils down to Economic prowess!

That's a keen observation sir, when you say that Wajahat is reluctantly putting on a conciliatory mask because Pakistan is a failed state today, & even the Islamic nations are not willing to help them. The moment they become somewhat stable they will go whole hog in their evil design of 'bleeding India through a thousand cuts'. The gentleman says that Pakistan is relevant to India because a disintegrated Pakistan with its nuclear arsenal with a highly weaponised society will be threat to India,in other words you deal with Pakistan for its nuisance value!

This guy is a favourite of pakistan army and will recite the ISI script . His propaganda holds no traction in India...pakistan was created by the Brits as a sentry post for the western powers to keep an eye on Russia . Later Iran and Afghanistan became other hot spots for which the americans used pakistan . Once pakistan ceased to be of any value the americans moved on and the borrowed economic growth of pakistan collapsed like a pack of cards.

India can adapt to an ever unstable Pakistan, Indians should never be the ones who fear disintegration of Pakistan. Rather India should be the first who prepares for such an eventuality. India might help the people of Pakistan ( not the political entity of Pakistan ) only in the event of mass starvation on purely humanitarian basis. Otherwise India should not do anything out of the way extending any sort of help to Pakistan. We still remember the treacherous back stabbing behaviour of Pakistan for the last 75 years and what it has put India through for so long.

Also, all those who befriended pakistan has been doomed and we are progressing better after 2014 with no relationship with paki then in earlier years...pak is a cursed country and reaping fruits of its Karma!!

But Pakistan ek normal state nahi hai. Wo jab khud Stable hote hai, tab wo dusro ko unstable karne me apna energy and paisa lagate hai. Aur jab tak Pakistan ka ye trait khatam nahi hota, tab tak humaare liye sabse achha yahi ho ga ki , 'Pakistan ko edge' par rakhha jae. Mai ye bhi nahi chahata ki Pakistan break ho jae, kyu ki uske baad kya ho ga usme bahut uncertainty hai, bahut chaos hua to hume bhi effect ho sakta hai. Isliye Pakistan ko just extreme edge par rakhho, jisse ki uska saara energy sirf Zinda rahane me chala jae.

India does not need stable pakistan but need a pakistan that is broken in 4 states. I used to laugh even years ago when certain political leaders and bollywood personalities used to make this statement that stable pakistan is India need, when they used to fund every terrorist org that acted against India. That statement used to stand against every logic and data, but they used to make the stupid statement proudly nonetheless. I hope Indian govt continues current policy against pakistan and wait and watch what happens to it. If it breaks then we negotiate with govt of Sindh and Balochistan or if it continues in current trajectory then we are good as an economic pauper pakistan cannot fund terrorists.

India has so many internal issues to take care of, like unemployment, illiteracy, skill development, and infrastructure development ( that's the only area where the government is working effectively compared to other areas) inflation & many others. So, rather than focusing on dead horse , India should focus solely on its own development. Apart from that , as the national security state of pakistan, India can never trust pakistan as they have attacked 4 freaking times 1948, 1965, 1971, & 1999 and a series of terror attacks. So it's a large trust deficit , which is not easy to fill until they gain some sort of democracy instead of the current hybrid regime of pak establishment.

On the contrary, I agree with ORF experts like Shushant Sareen who conclusively stated that stable and financially strong Pakistan will never be in the interest of India. More than 7 decades of historical data emperically proves the same. I would request everyone to checkout Shushant Sareen's latest analysis on Satyendra Lamba's book on effort by certain section of diplomats to do the same on the behest of certain muslim lobby that exists in Congress. I have tried reading that book and frankly found the efforts of India in making Pakistan stable, prosperous in hope of peace with Pakistan troubling. as Christine fair and many experts have said Pakistan is a greedy state rather than security state and that's it has problem with both of its neighbours India and Afghanistan!

Pakistanis like Pervez Hoodbhoy, Syed Muzammil, Zarrar Khurro, and now Wajahat Khan don't have problems with Nehru's India or Romilla Thapar's version(s) of Ancient Indian history because it was tailored to the narrative independent India was delivered with. Pakistanis are petrified by Modi-Ji's India, because (a) it has taken India beyond their reach; (b) growing numbers of Indian Muslims have begun adjusting their lives within the mainstream; (c) better education levels among Muslim women has generated wealth for them and resulted in lower birth rates; (d) no preferential treatment is given to Muslims except in non-BJP ruled states; (e) most Pakistanis believe a Sanatani India will avenge the hate and violence they unleashed on the "Hindu" community since partition; maybe it will? Meanwhile, Zia's brand of political Islam has spawned "nafrat" and grown illiteracy that has clouded the ability of Pakistanis to see beyond their noses!
