Pakistan gave undocumented Afghans a deadline to leave voluntarily or face enforced repatriation

Pakistan is expelling thousands of undocumented Afghans across the border
According to the United Nations, Pakistani authorities have forced more than 450,000 to return home and Human rights watch organisation says more than 20,000 have been directly deported.
They include women, human rights defenders, journalists and former government employees who fled Afghanistan after the Taliban took over in August 2021.
They are at risk of persecution when they return.
Pakistan estimates more than 1.7 million Afghans have been living in the country without documents for years.
Most arrived in waves following the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979.
The deadline to leave voluntarily has passed - and those who've overstayed are facing monthly fines of one hundred US dollars.
Al Jazeera’s Osama Bin Javaid reports from Torkham, on the Afghan-Pakistan border.

Essentially; the Afghan ( Taliban ) government is not playing ball with the Pakistani establishment, and as a response, the Pakistani government has decided that they no longer want to tolerate Afghan refugees, or/and, they want to make things difficult for the aghan Taliban government by extraditing Afghan refugees. Any security concerns are secondary.

As a Pakistani i have experienced Afghan migration in Pakistan since 1989. At that time most of people came Pakistan and settled specially in N.W.F.P now K.P.K and other provinces. Even in my ancestral village a watchman was appointed and his family and they are settled now. There was no proper documentation due to which Pakistan is now facing terrorism and other challenges. It is good step that documented person would be allowed in Pakistan like wise other citizens of other countries.

Pakistan has been accepting refugees from Afghanistan for decades. They have a home. It is not similar to Palestine, so stop comparing it. Pakistan did not steal their land. They took them in when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan and started destroying the country. MILLIONS of refugees were present in Pakistan, and that was by the mid-2000's. We aren't even talking about the continued acceptance of refugees afterwards. America and Russia (formerly USSR) DESTROYED that country, and now the Taliban is in charge. At least they are trying to bring order. Now that there is no War, the Afghanis can go back and help to build their country. They were not woken up one night and told "get out or we'll kill you". This repatriation plan has been ACTIVE FOR YEARS. THERE ARE REFUGEES WHO ARE UNDOCUMENTED AND REFUSE TO LEAVE. THAT IS THE ISSUE HERE. The ones that have been repatriated already left voluntarily years ago. They have land, homes and family in Afghanistan that they were separated from due Wars THAT WERE NOT STARTED BY PAKISTAN. The ones that are refusing to leave have been told that they will need to or be they will be escorted out via the military. DO NOT COMPARE IT TO GENOCIDE. If you want to talk about something, talk about Kashmir. I saw the piece you did on Modi's visit and it did not paint the full picture. There is a complete state of repression there.

The sickness of the Pakistani government is whenever Afghan tries to go home. They lock those border doors, and those people are stuck in the checkpoints for weeks. They won’t let them go. They take all their money from them harass them won’t let them go home, but at the same time complaining that these Afghans are here illegally. If they are illegally and they’re going home, why don’t you let them go home? That’s because you want the bribes from them. And then when the Afghan decides to go home, they change their policy again and say stay stay because they know they cannot survive without those afghans monies. May Allah bring the same day on them, so they will know how Afghans feels. That’s all we could say.

This is a misunderstanding and oversimplification of the situation. Baloch (Balochistan/Sindh), Gujar (KPK, Punjab) and Hazara (Balochistan) also exist in both Afghanistan and Pakistan. Afghanistan should not seek any territory, all law abiding Afghans who have lived and seek to live in Pakistan should be granted a pathway to naturalization and citizenship. Any convicted criminals expelled, but the vast majority should be allowed to stay. It is not proper to expel those brotherly peoples who have spent their entire lives as law abiding citizens especially when their own kind also make up a lot of Pakistans population.
