@ericcallway721 Жыл бұрын
@@cringeasf8618 At that time I drove with friends from Delhi(where we were all posted as diplomats) to Kabul and back, including a side trip to Swat. No security problems within Pakistan or Afghanistan. Crossing the international borders between India/Pakistan and Afghanistan was also straightforward for us - but would have been impossible between Amritsar and Lahore shortly after our trip due to the war between India and Pakistan.
@ericcallway721 Жыл бұрын
As for prosperity etc, that is a huge subject! Suffice to say, India, in particular, in now a major industrial power, whereas in the 1960s it was not. Indeed there was in India more or less a total ban on importation in order to save foreign exchange. Pakistan and Afghanistan on the other hand did not limit imports to the same degree. By the time we made our trip to Kabul, my friends and I had all been living in India for a while and were used to the South Asian environment: apart from the availability of certain goods in the shops and petrol stations, the differences between the three were no that marked.

I came of age in the mid to late 1970s in Pakistan. It was a wonderful place. Slow pace, one took one's time to do things, great social life; there was no "load shedding," water shortages, prices touching the sky and all the ill you see now. The cities have really deteriorated. You cannot tell much about any place as a tourist unless you live there for a year or so. I never thought that Pakistan was a dangerous place but for the vast majority of people, poverty is the issue. Like most people from third world countries, folks leave for the West for purely economic reasons. Period. And as far as the role of women, women have always worked in Pakistan. Women work in the fields in the villages and there are no hijabs there. The hijab is quite an urban thing. My mother worked for The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation for a number of years in Rawalpindi back in the early 1970s. Women are in all walks of life. Hell, there are female fighter pilots in the Pakistan Airforce! What Pakistan does not need is Western style rabid feminism, a movement that has already destroyed the family.

@@factomatics3956 yep there is. Google Waris burnt in Pakistan for blasphemy. Note this is not even some old news. It’s this week! Don’t go by these slickly edited videos and news channels that don’t cover the real junk that the country is. Cheers!

@@nash797 Waris was arrested in 2019 for blasphemy,after one year in prison,he was left with a Final warning,After that this week,he was caught desecrating the Quran nd was again arrested.The mob attacked the Police station nd burnt him. Immediately,PK Police Dept took action and fired DSP and SHO of the area whom were unable to control the situation. PM of Pakistan also launched an official inquiry and said to arrest all those whom could be seen in the CCTV footage. Mobs exist all across the globe,so don't take them to represent as the country's policy.
