@@SusanHopkinson Its same in India for people from pakistan and bangladesh. you are allowed to visit only previously declared 3 cities. You have to report to the local police station when you visit the city and inform them where you will be staying. Earlier they always used to put one plainclothesman to either accompany you or follow you discretely. Same happened in pakistan to Indian Nationals. Since Karl is living in India for long time and married to an Indian Im surprised this is the first time its happened to him.

@@SusanHopkinson thats over exaggeration, that man earlier maybe was a off duty police head of a constable enjoying some fish, he probably called the policeman who was under his command, recently there was an attack on chinese nationals, so security is provided to foreigners and if you think they were spying, then this is 21st century age of It and technology, its easy to spy without confronting...so kudos.

Off all the encounters I had with the police here, they've been really respectful and only seen troubling them if there's a sign of malice. In Pakistan, the general rule is, Police will consider you guilty, not even giving you the chance to prove your innocence. He, being a foreigner played a big part of the policeman being nice to him, although, I want to believe that guy was a nice person generally.

I don't know, sometimes the best lesson is a hard lesson, like those girls who went to a remote mountainous area in Morocco thinking it was safe, only to get beheaded by religious extremists. well, any flap, especially an attacked foreign visitor, presumably makes the local police look bad, their area unsafe, etc. seems to me they were just worried about their job performance and couldnt care less what he's there to do. rushed him to finish eating before he's even had a bite, when he emphatically stressed to them he did not desire any security. probably his whole trip was just hanging around this place and that, this is a major upset... it is them valuing their own job performance over someone else's freedom, even over their own area's tourism value, as this kind of thing obviously is unwelcomed and can ruin a trip

People will try their best to lie their way to prove Islam is at its worst, there are people who do not have the sufficient knowledge to the scriptures, and then there are different groups of Muslims. The Islamic scripture absolutely DOES NOT teach such blasphemy. Especially with non-muslims, there is no reason to hate them unless they were to perform an act on you. Generalizing non-muslims to be the root of all evil is a terrible thing to do. We have "Muslims" on our side who perform horrible acts on their own Brothers and Sisters. Islam is a religion of choice. When you wrote in the "Verse of Quran" you did not write the surah non-muslims have absolutely no idea about, you only wrote the numbers which made me ever more suspicious of your acts. Its seriously irritating and part of the reason why we had to leave my homeland. But on the other side if any crime was to happen to a foriegner in France or Spain or any touristy country, no body would care. Tourist women get kidnapped and sold as sex slaves in certain parts of Europe and South America. But if something was to happen to any foriegner in Pakistan, the whole world loses its Goddamned mind. But it seems like Pakistani police and authorities is taking extra measures to ensure guests have a good time and to promote tourism. There are bad people in every country and city. Police best interest to look after you. You represent 99% to 100% tourists in the area. Anything bad happens to you is super bad tourism for them. Either bad experience or whatever extreme mugged and killed on the streets. I don't think the government wants to stomach either outcome. Imagine the news gets out. A peaceful tourist went about his day to get to know the city. Gets mugged and stabbed. Returns flight to his family in a casket. Hi karl, you speak urdu so well. ❤️. I am from Pakistan. In the smaller cities there might be some security problems so that is why the hotels are instructed to send a security guard with any foreigner who is leaving the hotel for a walk. It is for the well being of the foreigner. It is only for the security of the guest so that he doesnt face any unwanted situation or trouble. The hotel guys were bound to provide you the security during your walk but perhaps you denied them or probably they made a mistake. The Police guy did a wonderful job. Sometimes even if a Pakistan national visits some other city, he may face a scam, fraud or theft and you are still a foreigner. Salutes to the Police guy who fulfilled his duty in a best manner. Whether you understand or not, there was something unpleasant which the security guys had smelled and wanted to keep you safe from it. . I am amazed how professional that Police guy was. ❤️❤️❤️lots of Love for that Police officer.

He was looking out for you. His idea of giving you a drive was his way to go to an extra length to be hospitable. What he didn't understand is that someone from the west values their freedom over being looked after. I would've been irritated as well if this dude was harassing me even though he was coming from a good place. It's a hard thing to adjust to. But sometimes these small towns harbour dangerous criminals. That's why he laughed at your naivety. Still, I understand where you are coming from. The title in the video is misleading. He didn't bust you. He was trying to be a gentleman but someone from there will never understand why you wanted to be left alone. As an American, I lived in Lahore for two years in the early 90s, as a young boy. During Desert Storm, foreigner relations were at an all time low. Lots of bomb threats. At one point, I woke up and saw bullet holes in my bedroom window. Eventually my family was evacuated at 3am, with a police escort to the airport. I learned later that this was a standard practice, in Pakistan, to evacuate all the foreigners when things get intense. Despite your discomfort, I’m grateful to see the police taking care to keep foreigners safe. Respect. 🐾

As the saying goes, "Not on my watch". Security officials know the risks and are not out to waste their time or resources. So, if they go to a lot of effort and don't detail what the risks are, that means they are being very polite and knowledgeably concerned for your security. No security officials worth their salt are going to risk something bad happening on their watch through a lack of vigilance and precaution. Respect the professionals.

I mean, it's clear that they were looking out for you and I apologize if this sounds too harsh, but speaking a bit of Urdu doesn't make you any less foreign to that area. The agent who approached you clearly had some specific information that you did not, and the area is not as safe for foreigners at that time of night as you might have thought it to be. I think you've lived in Delhi long enough to know that parts of Delhi aren't safe to walk around after 11pm, especially for foreigners and women. The agent called the local station and clearly instructed them to make sure you got to your hotel safely, so it's quite possible that you were being followed by people who didn't have the best intentions towards you. That is why the police officer literally gave you a ride in his official vehicle to your hotel.

It's the ride around town I found most scary. Our taxi driver in Bulgaria took us to the airport via a remote, run down industrial area. Then a short taxi ride back to our hotel in Moscow went miles out of the way. Both cases ended well, but at the time we thought we were in serious trouble. When our taxi was stopped in Karachi the police demanded our passports. We were there for the cricket and said they were in the hotel. They let us go. The taxi driver said we were very lucky we weren't arrested. Be careful out there.
