Konark sun temple is UNESCO world heritage site. The wheel that you see is a sundial which was used to tell the exact time of the day. Konark has been a very important centre for Saurya sect which worships Sun deity. Om Surya Namah.

KonarkTemple- The temple was constructed by Narasingh dev I also known as Langula narshing dev. He wanted to construct this temple for his mother who was a sun worshiper. He sent his minister sibei samatara to find a spot, the minister did but that spot was near the sea. So to build a temple, they threw stones into the sea but all stones sank. Dejected the minister was wandering in the forest feeling hungry, saw hut with some light. An old woman lived there. She offered him some hot mandia jau(porridge of mandia or millet)which used to common food then. The minister dipped his hand into the bowl and cried. The old woman said-Son, how you will eat if you put your hand in the middle, start from the corners. The minister got the idea how to laid foundation for the temple. He came out of the hut and when looked back, there was no hut or old woman. He knew that it must be goddess Ramchandi whose temple was near by must he came in disguise of an old lady to give him the idea. They started from the shore. There were 1200 workers led by a man named bishu maharana. When he left for the work, his wife was pregnant with the child. The child who later was born was a boy named-Dharmapada(the path of truth). He since his childhood studies temple design documents in his home. When he turned 12,he wanted to meet his father. The mother sent him with some berries of their tree so that the father will recognize the berries. Bisu maharana was happy to see his son.But dharmapada saw that his father is worried. The reason was even if the temple is finished, they could not place the center stone a big huge stone which is support the temple by its load. Since those days they did not have cement, they used to build a part then then cover it with sand, then build the upper part. When finished, they remove the sand but the sand inside the small opening where both stones are joint will not come out and act as a binder. The huge circular stone balances the temple with its weight and the stones remain in their place. Like a card house. Bottom is ground and top is the heaviest stone, so the temple stays intact. Since that can’t be completed, the king has ordered to kill all 1200 workers worked for 12 years to complete the temple. Dharmapada, silently single handedly did the work. Everyone was amazed, bishu maharana was proud but then they thought that if kind knew that a 12-year-old boy did what 1200 workers could not, they will be punished no matter what. They asked bishu what to do? It’s your son or your entire community of people. When dharmapada learned about this he said-Boy like me will be born but 1200 workers won’t be born again with such skills. In night, he climbed to the top of the mountain and jumped into the sea which is touching the temple as they built the temple by burying the sea with stones. His sacrifice was recorded. Now the same sea is 3 kilometers away, gone back.

Kalia- Kalia is a name commonly given to people and even pets those who are of dark complexion. Lord jagannath is of dark complexion that is why he is fondly called as-Kalia while his elder brother balabhadra is called as-Balia. If there are 2 brothers, people sometimes called them-Kalia-balia. Kalu is also short name for people with dark complexion. Legend of samba, the son of srikrishna-Samba used his appearance to fool his stepmothers and play pranks with them in the absence of his father. Krishna bore it with patience as he did not like to hurt him. One day, Samba teased the sage Narada for his looks. The sage felt humiliated and was infuriated. He decided to teach Samba a lesson. He lured Samba to the private bathing pool where his stepmothers were taking bath. Finding intrusion on their privacy, they all complained to Krishna. Krishna was mortified to learn that his son had been peeping and cursed him to suffer from leprosy. Samba pleaded his innocence and expressed that he was misled by Narada. Krishna found it to be true and repented for his action in haste. As the curse cannot be revoked, he advised Samba to pray Surya who alone can cure him of the deadly disease. He was cured by the Sun God Surya after 12 years of penance near Konark. As a tradition in the state of Odisha, India this day is celebrated as Samba Dashami on the 10th day of the Shukla Paksha of Pausha Masa. On this day, mothers pray to Surya for the health of their children.

Hamaare city Gwalior me bhi ek bahut badaa Sun temple hai jo recently hi banaa hai. isko big industrial tycoon "Birlas" ne banwaya tha 1983 me. iske liye unhone first sun-beam ka right bhi liya tha, means, jab sun rise hota hai to uski first rays is temple me Sun-god ke idol ke feet pe touch karti hen. Koi bhi building uske saamne kabhi nhi banegi jo uska way block kar de.... Ye sun temple bhi bilkul Konark temple ki hi shape ka hi hai aur iska koi bhi part incomlete nhi hai. Full temple is visible.
