1100 km actually Perimeter... I've been there five years back by renting a bike from Puri and one of the most memorable bike riding while traveling. There is a museum beside the lake where you will get to know different types of Dolphins living in Chilika. But quality Food availability was an issue that time. Now talking about Crab and Prawn.... I love both and it is my favourite 😍 So many varieties are there in West Bengal as far as Crab and Prawn is concerned. Sweet water crab/prawns to seawater. And most importantly Fresh !! Coincidentally I cooked Prawn today 😃

Child ka lake is the world's greatest sweet water lake joined bay of bengal. Two rivers Daya nadi river and Bhargavi nadi river drains water into Chilika lake. Perhaps, one more river may contribute water into Chilika lake. The famous Khanga fish compared to salman fish in the arctic Ocean found in chilla lake. Crab and prawn as well as rare aquatic fishes found in chilk lake.

I have been to chilika lake many times since my childhood. Last time was in 2005-2006 or so because I had a new phone that time and I took pictures. I also took pictures of children and told them I will print and send them to you but I forgot to take the address, otherwise I would have sent by speedpost. I thought I will visit and give them in person but unfortunately I could not and they would have grown by now. Any way, I am a vegetarian and became vegetarian 23 years back after my mother told me to become one. I did not like chicken or mutton but I liked fish which my mother perpared, rohu or rohi which is every time brought to our house. Sometimes prawn which was loved as fry and curry(one of my favourite with masala) and never bhakur or small fishes(I ate one while at my maternal grandfather's house, share of catch from the village pond). I also loved the fish egg vada which I am sure you never heard of,another odia delicacy. I also liked egg curry with masala, boiled egg. But as per crab, never eaten. Also sea food is not suitable for everyone. One of my friends once ate crab brought from a local seller by his mother out of greed after cooking.Came to office and after sometime, had his face swollen and collapsed on the floor. taken to hospital and the doctor asked-what did you eat? He said- Crab. Doctor said- Sister bring another crab,he will eat now(jokingly). Doctor then said- Sea food is allergic to you. Never eat any sea food. This is common for many people allergic to sea food like fish and crab but no problem with river fish. May be the crab was poisonous which happens sometime especially during mating season, one should not eat crab and some crabs are poisonous by nature. There was an incident also few years back, one person ate crab at famous bali jatra(you will see in harish bali odisha tour, his last video in Odisha) and when reached home, became unconscious and died. So, it's best to avoid sea food because it is allergic to many but still lots of people eat. So, one has to be careful otherwise can die.

Kalijai temple- There are many islands inside chilika and even there are kings of that island still there. It used to be one of the safe heaven for lord jagannath when muslim invaders attacked Jagannath temple. These many islands where the idols were hidden and only known to very few people. There are many occasions when it happened and also written in a famous book by an Odia writer which focuses on the legend around it and how the hindu king become muslim to protect lord jagannath and also about the statue of patitapaban(saviour of the fallen). The story of kalijai is- Kalijai is a girl. Kalijai's father wanted to marry her to another place which was on the mainland but kalijai did not want to leave her island, her village which she liked. When going to her groom's house by boat, she asked Goddess to do something so that she never have to leave the island or chilika. A storm came and the boat capsized. The father and other people were able to recover but kalijai was never found. People then believed that she was a form of Goddess who came as human and started worshiping her at the point where the incident took place. Every boatman travellers pray to Goddess for protecting them from storm, cyclone etc. There is also another temple elsewhere dedicated to lord shiva. it was believed that lord shiva came to study there as a pupil or student, in Odia chata as in old way of saying. That is why when there were no schools in old days, schools run by a single person is called as-chatashali and the person is called was abadhana. One day that boy went inside the pond and never returned even his dead body was not recovered. It was believed that he was lord shiva and the famous kind ananga bhima dev who wa s one of the 3 kings to construct the famous lord jagannath temple. One of his minister did the job. That temple is called-chateswar(lord of student),located some distance from my mother's village. My grand father(maternal) used to visit every time for puja when my uncle was appearing for his medical semester paper. This was in 1970 or before

Odia food is very diversified with unimmaginable items. Look at the lord jagannath, daily 10,000 to 1 lakh people food is prepared in his temple and he himself is offered 60 pots of rice and on byanjan dwadashi, he is offered 108 types of food, that too vegetarian, without onion, garlic, tomato, red chili, sugar and oil. Everything is prepared in ghee and gud used instead of sugar. So, Odia people are the biggest foodie in the world where varieties not only in one type but in all types like breakfast, lunch, dinner and evening snacks. You go to any other state, you will find 1-2 types in breakfast, lunch, dinner etc but in Odisha you will find at least 4-5 types just in breakfast. Whether it's odia food, south india, north india, gujarati, rajasthani even arabic, turkish everything is found here. Also samosa which is known as singada, you saw yourself. Everywhere else either the most common is mashed potato and some where here in Odisha too they may chowmein samosa and chicken samosa but here you will be surprised to know we also make sweet samosa. I remeber one stall near my house used to make I think their own invention, the samosa had grated coconut mixed with gud and after frying, it is dipped in sugar syrup. Looks like samosa, same triangle, yellow, crust but coated with sugar syrup. Unless you eat it, you would not know. As per singada- The potatoes are chopped,so are carrot, beatroot and one will also find peanuts, dry cooked white matar(chickpeas) like the ghughuni you saw but without gravy and with pieces of coconut. That is why it's totally different
