Islamic provisions that were included in the 1956 Constitution of Pakistan: 1. Sovereignty of Allah: The Constitution of 1956 declared that sovereignty over the entire universe belongs to Allah alone and that the authority to be exercised by the people of Pakistan was a sacred trust from Allah. 2. Country Name: The Constitution established the name of the country as the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. 3. Country Head: The Constitution did not require that the country's head be a Muslim, but it did require that the Prime Minister and President be elected by members of the National Assembly and Electoral College, respectively. 4. Following the basic principles of Islam: The Constitution stated that the principles of democracy, freedom, equality, tolerance, and social justice, as enunciated by Islam, would be fully observed. 5. Safeguarding Islamic Aqdar: The Constitution required that the Islamic way of life is safeguarded and that steps be taken to enable the Muslims of Pakistan to order their lives by the fundamental principles and basic concepts of Islam. 6. Specific relationships with Muslim countries: The Constitution provided for the establishment of special relationships with other Muslim countries, particularly those that were members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). It also mandated that Pakistan would strive for the unity of the Muslim world.
