Brilliant analysis, especially on the late Queen and her humility. She showed it in so many ways. Everything she did was to show an example and to unite the people. She never delved into anything the slightest bit political, although she was an intelligent and insightful woman who I'm sure had very strong opinions - that, too, I think, showed her humility. She was brilliant, bitingly funny, wise and kind. I somehow equate her loss as with losing my own mother, and even now I get teary eyed thinking that they are both gone.

Hi Jess. This was such an interesting episode. For me personally as an Australian making a decision for becoming a republic during the referendum, I felt we were not given a clear model of what the alternative form of government would look like. So it’s better to stick with what you know. I’m really enjoying your presentation and commentary particularly through the lens of your faith and moral principles. @@CarolFremel-my4hs Now, now, not so pessimistic, young lady 😉! You managed to get rid of a few of your most inept and fishy politicians by sending them as 'SpAds' to the then UK government. As for a democratically elected 2nd chamber, no need to re-invent the wheel, you might model your version on the German or Finnish systems, both of which are very democratic and efficient, as in having real power (unlike the UK's HoL, which isn't but a Potemkin Village of a supposedly functioning 2nd chamber). There will never be another to compare to Queen Elizabeth. Known for her ability to respond with humour, dignity, or even a bland but neutralising remark such as “interesting”. One incident which I feel demonstrates her unflappable nature occurred at an agricultural show. An apparatus which puzzled Her Majesty elicited the question “What is that?”, whereupon her blushing host explained that it was an artificial vagina, used to eliminate taking a bull to a cow. “Oh, silly me” was her response, and the tour continued. The Queen was a true country woman at heart, and whatever carping criticisms may be levelled, it must be remembered that she did not ask for the job, and would undoubtedly have preferred a private life.

True. But Camilla was chasing APB for years and not in love with Charles at that point. If Charles has proposed back then, I wonder if she would have accepted?
@Kathleen-zn9oe2 күн бұрын
Diana wasn’t the little hard done by wife and Charles the ogre. The housekeepers diaries clearly show that Diana was the first to stray and Charles’ friends were concerned for his emotional state and so Camilla became more involved and they resumed their relationship. Not that either of them seemed to be overly concerned about the boys. William was the one that Diana unloaded to while he was a young teenager. What a heavy load for him. He did well to take his time choosing his wife
@Jess_Connell2 күн бұрын
@@Kathleen-zn9oe It's appalling the way she used her son as her own personal trauma counselor. I have experienced the pull to "age up" the oldest child... to assume they are wiser, stronger, smarter, more mature, than the age they're at... even still- some things ought to be out of bounds to discuss with your children when they are still growing up.
@carmelsileo65202 күн бұрын
@@Jess_ConnellYes, it was totally inappropriate for her to talk about her love life with her children. I've also read Tina Brown's book about Diana, and I see her as someone constantly bewildered by the fact that her beauty, fame, and dazzling charms failed her when it came to finding true love. From all accounts, one man who did deeply love her was the doctor she dated in her final years. She deeply loved him, too, but Diana made the mistake of thinking that he, too, wanted the glamour and celebrity that she thrived in. On the contrary, he hated it, and that's partly why they split. If she could have let go of that drive to be a star, she might have found happiness.

Prince Charles as a widower was available. Camilla, while divorced was not considered available by the Church of England. Her former husband was still living. That was still a problem for Prince Charles. One day he would be Supreme Governor Of the C of E.

@Jess_Connell My problem is I once read that as Supreme Governor of the C of E all Monarchs must be married in the Church of England. I was reading this in the 2 years before the then Prince Charles's wedding to Camilla. I've not found any government or church regulations that alter that premise. So, I continue to look for either verification of what I read or new procedures that have been implemented by the LQEII. She did arrange to drop the ban against marrying a Catholic & thereby losing your place in the LOS. Children of such a union must be raised as C of E. I will continue to research until I find a resolution to the quandary. 🤔 I'm enjoying the reading. 💖
