Not necessarily an oversight, but Seal of the Crusader gives 161 AP (185 with 3/3 talent) which gives 48 (55) spelldamage with Sheate of Light rune. If you also judge Crusader on your nuke target you'll get another 80 holy spelldamage (92 talented). As a Shockadin getting that much effect out of Seal of the Crusader is extremely good, I still hold firm on the "AP Shockadin" build being the way to go over the Spelldamage one. Get lots of strength/AP and the new "all crit" stat to cover both damage with spells and Art of War rune resetting Holy Shock and Exorcism for us, if we build like a traditional Ret we'd also still do decent damage with Divine Storm, Crusader Strike and melee swings. Weapon choices I'd say we have 3 scenarios that change our priority. - Normal ST we'd go a quick 1hander and any offhand with high spelldamage (shield should be a free grab for Paladins). All we're looking for is the resets for Holy Shock and Exorcism. - ST burst we could go Manual Crowd Pummeler, has great itemization for spelldamage and will hit quick enough for "unlimited" resets on Holy Shock and Exorcism. - For AoE (Consecration and Divine Storm, later Holy Wrath) you want the biggest and baddest 2h stat stick there is, the slower the better. The epic 2h axe from Gnomergan is the ideal pick- but the STV pvp 2hander isn't far off either.

Agree. While the increase is great, it’s strange they increased other classes also. Pala stuck at 10 minutes, everyone else gets 45? Just make buff timers the same across the board.

@@alfredgreybeard Couldn't agree more! 10 minutes duration is certainly better and the halved mana cost is great too, but it's still not like wild of the mark or stamina which you just cast at the start of the raid and then forget about it (until a wipe or prolonged raiding).

An excellent guide but what really annoys me is the fact that the devs spoke about "oh, in P2 you get your 31 point talent". Well, my 31 point talent is Holy Shield. Why the actual heck isn't there something *specifically* for the protection tree? I mean, ok, they "fixed" retribution and definitely gave amazing boosts to the holy tree. But what I see right now in P2 is that the protection tree is more or less useless. Like, seriously, why not a single rune e.g. for Blessing of Sanctuary? If a paladin is supposed to be tanking, then the optimal way *SHOULD* be deep prot. Mind you, my annoyance is not towards your excellent guide but towards the design decisions.

Yah I was really holding out hope they'd do something to really amplify the 1h shield version of pally, as it's my favorite and pretty core to what pally tanking has always been. Hopefully they'll get there eventually

prot pala is not gonna be a thing till lv 51.. sad reallity is that pala tanks just gonna be ret paladins in warrior gear with a fast weapon spamming exo

This is how it looks for me too. I think pallies need a basic attack button like crusader strike without losing Hand of Reckoning. Ideally something like a shield slam to make sword and board more useful the way Devastate is. Sheathe of light is going to be interesting though.

Unfortunately yes, I am deep prot and seeing what happens with Holy Shock/Exo/Conce really makes me question my decisions. The devs must *SERIOUSLY* up the ante on deep prot runes on the next two phases, or there will be a (Holy) riot!

Everyone is talking about Ret and holy. No one is talking about reckoning purely for STV. Let's face it STV is going to attract one class and that's rogues and all these holy Ret builds are missing one thing, a slow for PvP full Ret and full shock are back to being the wheelchair class as long as they have no slow no range is going to let you hit them for art of war procs.

@@TheFishRDrowning yes but using that you lose about half of the new runes as most of them revolve around exorcist procs so no art of war extra. Avengers shield will just be a flat damage reduction in PvP Vs other classes and not having any different spellings than what we have now. It's either you do damage but get kitted or you get a slow and do less damage while every other class basically gets flat damage increases but don't depend on having other runes to make other rubes work. If you are going Ret paladin in PvP you will basically be forced into exorcist on chest to allow art of war to proc to do any meaningful damage but then you have nothing to get within range to do melee damage for art of war procs because you have no slow.

They should move avengers shield to same slot as divine storm just so sword and shield paladins have representation instead of it being all retribution paladins switching to a random shield without a one hander just to throw their shield. I keep hearing about reckoning bombs. How does it work, do you let an npc crit you before you start a duel with someone?

@@ForbiddenFollyFollower ye reckoning stacks on critical strikes against you up to 4 times. It's very strange if you don't have your weapon out it won't stack and lots of other strange stuff as of know there's no add-on that can track it either. But still works for slapping rogues around. Let them hit you for a few times as they keep you stunned then bop and stun 1 shot them in the back lol

I think maybe straight Prot with no consecration to get Blessing of sanc is maybe something viable for big AOE. But that may not truly come into its own until next phase to be sure. At 60 I could even see that being stupid af, you’d take consecrate, and if the datamined runes are accurate aegis, purifying power, improved sanc, guarded by light, sheath of light, and exorcist. Spec down and get holy shield, regret that it may have to happen but take redoubt to get shield spec, take consecrate, use ret aura

Could be if the sanc damage reduction ends up being important for the biggest pulls. It is just kind of an awkward spot where we can't get both Cons and Sanc or HS right now. P3/4 will be nice in that regard

I play full prot because in my mind, a "proper" tank should be down their respective protection talent trees. That being said, the dev decisions are *forcing* people out of this mentality, which I consider it a very bad way to design things. Other than that, yes, with full 31 prot talents, incl. Sheath Of Light, Hand of Reckoning, Divine Storm runes I tanked easily 5/6 Gnomes the other day (we didnt get last boss because we are still learning the raid, prolly will go 6/6 by the end of this reset as all of us are gathering gear and consumes, working on tactics etc.).

@@birdlyt8822 and aoe threat is not an issue divine storm works fine, blessing of sanctuary plus holy shield is a lot of damage back to the attacker threat. add in a shield spike, thorns from a druid, and aoe threat is not an issue. get someone to make you some bombs if your worried lol
