This hunt turned out way more exciting, eventful and successful than any of us imagined it would be! We originally came to this location to hunt for sea urchin fossils from the Oligocene that have been covered by micro druzy quartz crystals, but we decided to explore the area a bit first...this was a great decision and led to some surprisingly good Pleistocene aged vertebrate fossils prior to even reaching the urchin location. Some good ole rain, fun times with friends, beautiful wildlife and great finds made for a memorable day that we were super excited to share with you all!

That echinoid, with dark druzy, and the delicate white star was THE most beautiful fossil! I really love the tusk piece also; I hope you all were able to preserve it once you got home. ❤🦴I believe I might have been too scared 😱 to get in the water once I saw a gator 🐊 slip silently into the water. But I am glad you’re gutsier than me.

This last summer, was a limpkin at a lake in western Arkansas, never saw one and had to look up in my bird book. 😃 Just out of curiosity, how would you treat a fossil to stabilize it?

The lizards are called anoles! They're everywhere in central FL, at least I see them all over the place. And presumably all over fl, but who knows.... they camouflage pretty well and usually hide when spotted and approached by predators/docile curious creatures lol
