For the last 66 million years, one extraordinary group of animals have dominated the natural world: the mammals. They have evolved into every imaginable shape and size, filling a vast variety of niches. Some joined the birds and took to the skies. Others evolved into powerful killers. They even took claim to the ocean, becoming the largest animals to have ever lived.

@@yigithan.kilinc I feel that this theme and the army ant theme get the most out of recycling the series’s main theme. The Hunt’s main theme (which pops up all over the soundtrack) is forever the audible representation of predatory behaviour in my mind.

The theme of Balaenoptera musculus, the Blue Whale (from The Hunt). The largest animal known to have ever lived, possibly the largest an animal can get, and its a mammal, living with us (also mammals) today. Our clade has come a long way in the last 66 million years. I can't help but be proud, yet humbled, to be one small part of this amazing group of animals. Another impeccable edit and tribute! Keep up the fantastic work.

It would cool to see a video edit which is like a tree of life visualised, going through (say) each family of mammals or birds or reptiles and seeing how closely related different groups are.

That honestly sounds pretty interesting, as I am very into phylogenetics. In fact, I've made a couple of illustrated books for myself on the tree of life; one page for mammals, one on primates etc. But I think I'll have to let that idea marinate a bit to see if I can come up with a unqiue way of showing it. Perhaps I'll use my voice for once and make a proper education video someday, I don't know. But thanks for the request !

May I suggest a tribute on Actinopterygians ? 🐟🐠🐡 Actinopterygians have been for over 200 million years the sole dominant vertebrate group in our planet's waters. From the deepest depths, the coral reefs, the open seas, and stagnant ponds, there is few bodies of water where these organisms aren't present. They provide countless other animals with food and are vital for the transport of nutrients from sea to land. They are also very diverse, rivalling all tetrapods combined in species count, and come in all shapes and sizes, tailored to their specific ecological niches. Actinopterygians have long been overlooked for being " the default fish" but they deserve respect for their services to the global ecosystem.

I love that you put so much depth into your comment! And yes, I might do that some day. But I might broaden it a bit and go with 'fish', to include the odd shark and ray you know. I've also had someone else request a fish tribute so! However, I'm currently working on a new 'Life in the Cretaceous' video (see my channel for the pilot vid: seasonal worlds), which is basically a 20 min visual journey through the ocean. There's a bunch of fish, weird cephlapods and stuff in it, so please watch that in a few days if you'd like to :)

I use the adobe creative suite: Premiere Pro for editing, After Effects for the odd VFX shot or title sequence (not in this specific video tho), and sometimes Audition if I need to do more advance filtering to clean the audio or something like that.

Kind of a cheap shot to use mustangs in these documentaries since *technically* they’re the equine equivalent to stray cats and dogs, plus mostly they have no natural predators (settlers wiped most of them off in their range centuries ago) to check their numbers. People get emotional over feral horses, both here in the States and abroad like in Australia with brumbies, getting culled and corralled in pens, but the hard truth is they’re invasive species, just like the pythons in Florida, and either need to be eradicated completely or managed so that they won’t cause mass ecological-damage like the feral hog situation.

I won't claim to know how feral horses are currently impacting the north american ecology (because I don't), but it is worth to remember that horses were once part of that ecosystem some 12,000 years ago, and may or may not have been hunted to extinction by us human settlers back then. Unintentional as it may have been, feral horses might actually be a tiny step in returning the america wild into what it used to be. And who cares if they come in different colour coats, they're more or less the same mentally and physically as a przewalski horse. A bit bigger perhaps, but horses nonetheless.

Are they not still mammals? Boreoeutherian Laurasiatherians to be more precise. So it makes sense to put them in the video And horses are introduced to north America but are they considered invasive? Not all introduced species are invasives.
