Symbols of love, peace, power, divinity, imperial might and regality, beings long believed to have connections to the gods and heaven- Birds have always shaped humans imaginations and mythos and dispite all odds they have survived the ultimate extinction event and continue to awe us with their effortless grace and majesty.

I love how the first bird you showed was a Cassowary, first it's feet, then it's crest, and lastly it's body, grunting on the beach, it's the perfect bird to start with, a clear sign that yes, dinosaurs aren't extinct, just a bit... different ;)

It sucks that one of the greatest groups of animals of all time, rulers of the earth for millions of years, had to die for this current era to begin, but they have certainly bounced back into the new world and are dominating once more the biggest respects to the animals that kept going, and the ones that shaped this modern earth.

While modern animals certain enjoy a great deal of sampling bias, I think its safe to say that the fastest flying, swimming and maybe even running (with the highly reduced toe number seen in ostriches) dinosaurs are all birds. It is truly a wonderful lineage that we may have taken for granted, and despite all the genetic bottle they endured, this lineage has achieved some incredible evolutionary feats their ancient cousins could only dream of.

I still have this memmory of myself as a kid in the 80s, sitting in front of a TV and watching some documentary, probably of BBC production showing this hot new idea, that birds ARE dinosaurs, how they shown all the simmilarities in a skull of some T-rex and a bird (probably ostrich) and many more. In the end, of the show, the presenter said: Look above your heads. Maybe dinosaurs are flying there. It was mindbloving back then... and still is.

If you think about it, the Age of Dinosaurs never truly ended. While it is currently unknown exactly how many species of dinosaurs there were, an astounding 10,000 species of birds occupy every single speck of land imaginable, from the most isolated islands to the literal ends of the Earth - and new ones are still being discovered. The Age of Dinosaurs never truly ended. It merely had a minor setback.
