Sometimes rocks can have little pockets of water in them so try to pick rocks from dryer areas otherwise the water may heat up, turn into steam, and the expanding energy make cause the rock to pop and send shards

Ok ok I get the concept of how to boil water in the wild in a flammable container BUT my concern is now the ashes and stuff that got on to the rocks from the fire pit that are now floating in your “purified” drinking water (Purified because the boiling made it safe to drink but what about the fire pit debris now in it?)
@stefanjackson43783 жыл бұрын
If you had fabric and another container you could try and filter as much as possible. But the small bit of dirt and stuff wouldn't harm you I don't say.
@wape13 жыл бұрын
The only danger that comes to mind are alkaline compounds, but it's such a negligible amount that the probable bacteria in the unboiled water are a way bigger problem in a survival situation. If it's pure wood ash, that is.

As a kid I lived on a homestead; on the frontier no one boiled or even attempted to sterilize water. This is only being done to placate peoples mothers or to stop those who are obsessed with safety from making tiresome comments. It takes four minutes at => 100 C to do this properly. Still good to show how to do it though as this could be used to make instant coffee.
