The other day, I was walking with my two dog buds, when all of a sudden they exited stage right, game on. Fifty gigantic elk walked quickly into a clearing, stopped and looked back. Here came the hounds, who ran right up to the herd. They all stood there for a minute or two looking at each other. Then, the elk casually walked up the mountain and the dudes trotted back. It's all about the chase. Happy trails, my friend.

Two questions for you Donny: Has Finn ever alerted you to anything spooky? Like animals or people sniffing around your camp at night or anything like that? And second, have you ever been or considered doing any camping up in northern Wisconsin? The area around the end of the peninsula can be pretty cool. Lots of little lakes, islands, cliffs, forests and such. I've only been up there a few times when I was a kid, but it seems like a cool place to do some survival camping stuff, and I don't really see or hear people talk about it much. [EDIT] I typed that before finishing the video. I guess I got the answer to that first question. 😄

Building a solid shelter that'll keep you warm and protected from the elements is probably one of the most important things that you should build if you are in bush because exposure to the elements can and will kill you if you're exposed to them for too long,so that's why decent solid shelter is most important thing out there, Great video All the best

Good evening. First video of yours I have ever seen so impressive. Definitely someone I would like to be more like and learn from. Serious question from a city slicker. How do you prepare for/look out for/defend from/ not have fear of snakes and harmful bugs or spiders? Like in this video, I didn’t think about the rocks in the roots… but I was more like “how does he know there isn’t a snake down there going to bite as he clears it out or poisonous bug going to get on him at night. If I could over come this, I would definitely start camping. (Live in Texas, if that changes things). Thanks!

I really want to get into bushcraft, and wilderness survival. However, all of the knowledge that you need, that that comes with time is incredibly daunting. Do you have any guidance to give on speeding up the process of learning what plants, trees, herbs, etc can be used for what? Additionally is there any other tips or things that are important, or that you wish you knew sooner?

I carry a 1 lb net hammock, a couple of 1/2 lb each camo nets a couple of 1/4 lb each full-body bugnet "suits" a 1.5 lb reflective tyvek bivy, a lb of drum-liners, stakes, cordage, and I can sleep just fine at 34F, in wind and rain, in just cammies, balaclava, gloves, unlaced shes, 3 pairs of sock liners, and shemagh. I can set all of that up in a very few minutes. I can get down to 20F with some dry debris to mix in with my other gear and I can get 10F degrees colder with either hot rocks/water-bottles inside of the bivy, or about as much debris as he uses for bedding, between my bivy and the 2 drum-liners that serve as an "envelope" around the bivy. Trapped AIR is what insulates you, folks. So there can be no air leaks of the bivy or the envelope. Use a light to look for them and tape them if you find any. Pull a ridgeline and the hammock thru the bivy and attach another separate ridgeline to the outside of the envelope. I can feed myself with the 50x10ft, 2" mesh monofilament gillnet that I made into a hammock and the bugnet suits are of course very handy in hot weather. The camo nets have other uses, too. I use a buttpack and a daypack to carry my stuff. At night, I empty out the packs, stuff them with debris and use them as sleeping pads, normally up in the hammock. If it's cold,, I hang the hammock about 6" off of the ground, with me in it. I kick debris under the hammock so as to stop air from flowing under me.

this is way too much trouble. Lots of areas lack such materials, or they are soaking wet, covered with snow,, etc. I dont want to spend half of my day making a shelter and then have to return to that shelter. My 5 lbs of sleep/shelter gear lets me just set up wherever I want to stop for the night.. Depending upon how I deploy my gear, I can handled 100F down to 30F without any debris. With debris, I can get down to 10F and with a fire, I can handle 0F, without having to bother with the massive amounts of debris needed to fill the area between the bivy and its "envelope".

@ArkayaStudios
@ArkayaStudios Ай бұрын
Cleaning your teeth is actually easier than it looks. Get a fibrous stick and chew one end until it develops bristles (similar to a toothbrush, what a surprise) and rub charcoal on the bristled end, then use it as a toothbrush. It's not perfect and you'll still probably have to scrape some plaque off of your teeth with your nails, but it's better than nothing and helps a surprising amount.
