Palestinians under the age of 30 have never had a chance to vote in an election and many say they have little faith in the Palestinian leadership.
Exclusive data shared with the BBC suggests they are increasingly rejecting the idea of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
At the same time, support for armed confrontation is highest amongst under 30-year-olds.
The Palestinian Authority did not respond to a request for a reply to issues raised in this story.

I have an idea. Give all Palestinians US Passports and make them citizens, while Israel also gives them all citizenship, and make it one state. Then give all Palestinians $20k and let them decide, make a go in Israel or the US? I'm familiar with a thriving Palestinian population on Cleveland Ohio's west side, lovely people, lovely restaurants, great mechanics, wonderful contribution to a city with a history of population decline. How many other cities could benefit from Palestinian immigrants? While I'd rather Israel was never forced upon Palestinians by the UK and Zionists, there's no reversing that now. These beautiful young people deserve better options, and it's our fault and our responsibility to provide them.

They are vague on purpose, because they are aware that their solution is unpopular in Western audiences. Janna Jihad (that's her actual pen name, make of that what you will) said something of being able to travel to Israel, and the artist was saying something about "liberating Palestine" as something everyone hopes for. Polls consistently show that conquest of Israel by Palestinians is the solution they envision by big margins, as they see it as an essentially anti-colonial struggle and all Jews as foreign settlers who have to "leave" Palestine after that happens. That's why they are deliberately vague about their actual solutions. I find it a bit uncool that the interviewers didn't press them on this issue and just let them be so vague and "alternative" instead of saying what they really mean.

@@mardasman428 Unpopular is not the word I would use as US have time and time again confimed it's commitment to two state solution. It's only the stupidity of their politicians that have allowed Israel to create settlements in Palestine damaging US relations in Middle-East as honest negotiator and making way for China to enter the picture. Palestinians youth knows well that they are not strong enough to defeat Israel and gain independence, and it will take a full fledged war and military defeat for Israel to go back to 1967 borders, from here. Thus if Israel does not return back to 1967 borders the only option left would be ending 2 state solution in case of which Palestinians could face genocide at hands of Israel so it's important to prepare counter plan for that
@mardasman428
@mardasman428 Жыл бұрын
@@blackpanthar906 I meant that the idea of ethnic cleansing against Jews is unpopular among Western audiences, the same way that ethnic cleansing of Palestinians is unpopular among people like you, not as if Israel had ever proposed something like a genocide, like you are implying. Hamas has however very openly advocated for this without any real consequences. In fact, in street interviews in the West bank you can seriously ask people on the street whether or not Iran should nuke Israel and most of those asked say yes in case it would only kill Jews. That is the mood on the street.
@blackpanthar906
@blackpanthar906 Жыл бұрын
@@mardasman428 The idea of ethnic cleansing Jews is also unpopular among us. It's against Islam to generalise or treat everyone the same, there are so many good Jews that actively work to against and to expose inhame policies of Israel. However the amount of gross evil that Israel have committed against Palestinians have clouded their minds, it would be impossible to find the words that could outweight 70 years of Apartheid and convince them to live together with Israelis? Can you go to a mother and command her to forgive someone that killed her child? No God fearing person has those words lest God would hold him accountable for those words, it is only the goodness in hearts of Palestinians and forgiveness that Islam teaches instead of feeling of revenge that can help achieve the utopia you are looking for, that is if they choose to do that.

12:45.The talk of the two -state solution is just talk, a PR thing in order to sedate world opinion. The Israelis never had any intention of having two states since the days of Ben Gurion; he wanted it all. There was no room for another state, apart from the Israeli state; but he went along with the idea of a two state solution to appease world opinion. He said so in a letter to his son. This was to bide time for the Israeli state to get stronger and to expand piecemeal with patience and time to finally gobble up the whole territories including the occupied territories of the Palestinians. They've started doing this already for decades, building settlements and townships for Jews only and erecting walls to separate themselves from the rest of the Palestinian population and encroaching on the Palestinian space, and from time to time attacking Palestinian farmers and destroying their olive trees which have been reported in Haaretz, aJewish newspaper. The Oslo agreement/conference was entirely a ruse, a fiasco played along by both the Israelis and Clinton to make the Israelis look good in front of the world. It was the Palestinians who offered peace in return for their own state and were finally rejected by the Israelis after the Israelis got tired of the charade. They wanted Palestinian lands also for the expanding Jewish settlements. They did not want Palestinians as their neighbors. (Noam Chomsky). This was also said in the letter to Gurion's son. You can find the letter mentioned on Wikipedia.

I really feel for these youth. I hope both Jews and Arabs can live in peace one day, and tear down the wall, and instead cooperate. I fear however that there's just not enough people that are able to give up their own extreme "pro-Palestine" or "pro-Israel" views. Perhaps it's a good thing that they are losing hope in a political progress, since politics have not done much good. I agree with the youth that said they perhaps need a new way to think about the whole problem, cause nobody is going to tolerate that Ultra-Orthodox Jews takes it all, nor that Islamist extremist Arabs takes it all. Guns and bombs are just going to keep things in a deadlock with no hope of any solution. With hopes for a better future, Alv, Norway.

The filmmakers really allowed the Palestinian interviewees off the hook. They should have been direct about what kind of alternatives they propose to the two-state solution, but they were deliberately vague and wishy-washy and there is a reason for it. The reason is that they are aware that their solution isn't popular in the West. Polls and my personal experience with Palestinians show that the most popular solution to the conflict is in fact conquest of Israel, destruction and abolishment of the state of Israel, expulsion of all Jews, as they are all deemed foreigners. It is deemed the most natural and logical solution among Palestinians themselves, but activists are never saying this out loud in front of Western cameras, the same way that Hitler was always talking about peace during his first years in office.

It is true that the Jews came to Palestine from more than 80 countries and inhabited the homes of the Palestinians and occupied their lands, but the Palestinians accept the two-state solution that was stipulated by international law and agreed upon under the auspices of the United Nations and America, but it continues to occupy the land and practice an apartheid regime and build illegal settlements on Palestinian lands Israel, which is part of the Palestinian state, rejects any solutions agreed upon that are compatible with international law and human

@@abdulkasseb100 There is a huge difference between 1948 and 1967 borders, and if you ask Palestinians, very few talk about 1967 borders when they talk about "free Palestine" and "liberation". In popular Palestinian (and largely Arab) imagination, there's no real difference between 1967 Palestine and pre-1948 Palestine. I have a liberal(!) Jordanian roommate with many Palestinian friends who casually answered my response about the most logical solution for the conflict as requiring that all Israelis "have to leave". She was clearly saying that her solution was the same that her Palestinian friends were having in mind, and she was surprised that I was more in favor of a two-state solution and that I didn't like ethnic cleansing. Her views are standard. There is a reason why Israel isn't recognized as a state inside 1948 borders by most Arab states. If you have bad relations with a government, you can still recognize it and have very limited and cold relations, especially considering that Israeli Arabs (Palestinians) have Israeli citizenship too, so if you don't recognize Israel, you harm them too. But they are making a point about not recognizing Israel in general, and they are only using the "apartheid" argument as a smokescreen for their bigotry. You can criticize Israel's settler policy all you like, I would share a lot of the criticism towards the respective Israeli government's policies on that front, but Israel has a right to exist, Jews have a right to live in peace and not have to fear violence, terror and genocidal threats.
@fearghal10
@fearghal10 Жыл бұрын
@@mardasman428t looks to me that, from the Palestinian perspective, the Israeli state was founded on them being told they "all have to leave", and that that open wound on their lived reality kinda normalises the idea. By now there are a great many in Israel (including their current government) who feel the same way about the Arabs of the west bank. Everybody wants the other side to leave. That's what a conflict is. The solution is compromise, yet no one seems to entertain the obvious compromise: a single, secular, democratic state. This is never mentioned because the Israelis are scared of retribution, while the Palestinians... Well, it's unclear, as they hardly have enough leverage to deal in anything but absolutes. They're already compromised, occupied and subjugated, and unless the Israeli government steps back and lets them feel that they're even at the table, would you honestly expect them to negotiate. I'm not advocating for absolute and extreme responses, but anyone can see that that's what will always arrise given the position their in. The only people who can meaningfully change that position are the Israeli government and their western backers (like my government, hence the concern). Like all the people in this film expressed: they have neither freedom nor representation in the first place, so why expect them to provide clear political solutions. What would they do with them but drive themselves mad at the thought. The ball is not in their court, and never has been.

@@fearghal10 There was never a real wish to conquer the whole of Palestine by Israel and to expel all the residents who were already living there, or else they would have done that already. 2 Million Israelis, 20% of its population, are Palestinians, they have been this for 70 years and gained more rather than less rights over time. The main point of Israel has been to secure Israel's existence and independence in peace and security, the settler movement has only exploited this insecure status quo for their own gains, but there has never been a masterplan for this.
@fearghal10
@fearghal10 Жыл бұрын
@@mardasman428 I wasn't trying to say that total conquest and ethnic cleansing is some great Israeli project: we're talking about millions of ordinary people over generations, there is never a "masterplan". I was trying to explore how these young Palestinians feel and think about how to find a resolution to the conflict. It will take Israel making significant concessions, something none seem disposed to do. Even broadly liberal Israelis seem to tacitly accept that their welfare comes at the expense of others'. One also can't overlook the current reality of an Israeli government so hard to the right Haaretz has no qualms about calling them fascists and which really does have cabinet ministers who seem to want the full ethnic cleansing of Palestine. Things are deteriorating even further, it's miserable to see.

seems a bit like a divide and conquer rhetoric to this video to fade away the idea of a free and independent sovereign palestinian state. Despite any disagreements between parties here all revolves around a common problem which is illegal occupation by israel.

I don't know, it seems that arabs occupied the region at some point back in time, from what i know it was not a gift to them. People tend to push aside their own past wars of expansion when they talk to outsiders or to glorify them when they talk to their own. Hypocrisy at it's best.

@@Tha3rdworldghost thats not a strong argument because that would justify the native red indians recapturing USA which was taken slightly more than 500 years ago and also that argument still does not explain the forced theft of land. Particularly in the modern world israels illegal occupation is criticized more strongly because its happening when the europeans said no more war, the same with USA and russia who avoided war on many occassions despite the disagreements. People like yourself are indirectly saying "let the palestinians suffer and let their home country be stolen". Or australia too, which was never white in the first place. But when Russia invades ukraine everyone is saying oh no invasion is so bad condemn them and sanction them!

I hear Palestinians mad at Fatah and Israel, mad at lack of democracy, but I did not hear of proposals or solutions or new ideas. If it is just any change like fundamental Islam or military conquering of Israel then it should be clear - and this will not work and only lead to chaos and destrution. In my opinion there should be no threats as this brings fear and prejudice and separation and even worse poverty and tribalism to the point of killings forever. Fear feeds extremists in Jewish population and in Palestinian populations. Should be an Israeli constitution (not one now) and a better democracy/constitution in West bank. Moderate sides can compromise or coexist but extreme sides will only bring disaster to all. At end it was "what is the question, what is the hope, what is the solution?"

I have never seen opinion being against Israel this much in all my life. But I suppose it's not an answer of this one over that one. It's really a Ghandi/MLKJ kind of answer. When I was a kid I saw everyday terrorist suicide bombings (traditionally judeo Christian belief is that those who commit suicide generaly go to Hell) in Israel. Even to this day the most holy ancient Israeli/Israelite sight has a muslim shrine on it as a slap in the face to jews everywhere. That being said, it seems Israel is not all that canny right now either. Hezbollah, the Nazis and others tried using violence to destroy the Jews: it all ended in a catastrophic failure. I remember when I was a kid suicide bombers would attack Israel all the damn time. It accomplished the current situation and nothing better. After all the goal of terrorism is to make the oppression worse so the people reach a breaking point: as developed in Tsarist Russia. So if Palestinians are oppressed and the jews hate them, it's the world forged by their fathers. Anyone who says Israel only understands violence is only naively perpetuating the cycle. If the Good Book is any indication, then Israel and Palestine will only be able to rebuild when they actually grow to like each other (like in the old testament books describing the return from Babylonian captivity. Stop the violence long enough and they may accidently start doing that.

If you actually bothered to watch even to the halfway point of the video, you'd realise that's not what this video is saying. Yes Israeli oppression looms large in the narrative, and it gets mentioned a few times throughout. But the video actually shows the interviewees criticising the Palestinian Authority way more. And it tells us that some are driven to Hamas because of their dissatisfaction with the PA, while others are trying to find other ways and other communities. The whole story's main point is about Palestinians facing multiple political dilemmas and their experience living and struggling under their reality. Maybe watch the whole video before you act like a smart ass next time.

I get hope from the fact that most of the individuals interviewed here are not militants.. which for those of you who don't know is just a washed up word for terrorist murderers.. If the Palestinians as a collective will abandon this unproductive 100+ years path of violence and muqauma, stop blaming Israel for all of their hardships, and start taking control over their fate in a productive manner - well that would be the day of their success, and of first signs of actual peace in the middle east.

Unfortunately, peace has been the goal for a long time. Israel have been doing the one thing which prevents Palestinians every establishing a state, and that is building illegal settlements in the West Bank, which is nothing to do with Israel. So much so, that most Israeli politicians now live in the West Bank, which again is Palestine, and is illegal. So Palestine have lost what would have been their state anyway. Israel has said time and time again, they will not share the land, neither as one state or a two state solution. The Palestinians are just trapped, under a brutal military occupation and apartheid.
