Reform UK leader, Nigel Farage, wins in Clacton - with the Conservatives in second place.
It is his eighth attempt to become a member of UK parliament, after failing seven times before.
Farage is the second Reform UK candidate to win, after Lee Anderson took Ashfield earlier.
Labour has won a landslide victory in the UK general election, according to the exit poll, meaning Keir Starmer will be the new prime minister.

@@morganalvarez5925you realise labour had 34℅ , the tories 24℅ and the lib dems had 11℅ but got a disproportionate amount of seats? If you cobble together a party in the space of a few years and get 14% that's amazing. They should have more representation.

@@Novella47 the UK parliamentary election is literally how the electoral college works in the US. It's an all-or-nothing first past the post system that leaves little room for smaller parties, and entrenches two major parties in power. So that's how you get Reform with more votes than Lib Dems, because their 14% of their votes is high, but spread out like that in every constituency, while Lib Dems have a power base in Southwest England that usually gets 30-50% of the votes. Wouldn't it be awesome if we literally got rid of this outdated system and joined the rest of Europe with a modernized proportional or mixed-proportional democratic system?

@@Novella47 it’s not about London. The constituencies all have the same amount of voters. It’s about the flawed plurality winner take all, which is exactly how the US electoral college works. It’s about just London. It’s about the seats outside London where reform do get 20% but that’s not enough to win a seat. I guess finally the antiquated system you right wingers all shill for worked against you and worked out well for the left.

Unlike Sunak, Farage understands his followers, and has taken a leaf out of Trump's playbook. As Trump has demonstrated decisively, it doesn't matter if what you say is true, not at all. You just want to play on people's prejudices, and tell big bold lies, loudly, often, and with appearance of great confidence. You can then fool most people most of the time. Well done Nigel.

@Kwippy Nigel Farage will always be the man of the people. No leader of any party in the last 50 years has garnered the equivalent support in such a short amount of time. You have witnessed tonight an insurgent party go toe to toe with an established party of no less than of 100 years. Reform may have come second in many seats but they will dominate the next election. Young adults can't get onto the housing market and have been betrayed by our political leaders. They are disillusioned and that cannot be reversed. They will not vote for Labour or Conservative. The next generation is waking up and will vote for Reform in the next election.
