as someone who was in the trenches of mid-00s MMOs and hasn't really played an MMO since, I am over the moon with how kind and easygoing people in this game are. Maybe it's the fact there's no combat, maybe it's the fact it's a cosy game, or maybe the mindset has just shifted in the time i wasn't playing, but I am so glad people are finally nice in MMOs

Thank you for this! I am a switch player, and it took me awhile to learn all of the different social etiquette things in the game. Once I finally understood, it became very clear what other players were doing. There's no tutorial for these rules. I also only recently started playing the game when it came out on switch. Other players who have been playing for longer may not realize that there are new players and they don't all know the etiquette.

It’s SO cute how seasoned players drop bug lures to help those waiting!!! As someone with ADHD, I avoid interacting either anyone because I get so anxious and impatient sometimes, since my brain is thinking about the other 50 tasks I have yet to do and the 10 I stopped midway and forgot about 😭 The European servers don’t seem as fun though. Any time I’m on (I’m in the U.K.) the players all are silent keeps to themselves. No one calls anything out in the chat either actually.
@heatherkaye63627 ай бұрын
Thank you for the balanced take. Sometimes there are rude players who expect every single resource to be called out every time and will harass players for playing solo. For example, I was once farming trees and had a small'ish (more than one hit) one spawn. I waved over nearby players. One of them flamed me in the chat for not calling it out. I was so surprised that it didn't even cross my mind to report their behavior, but afterwards I realized I should have because I probably was not their only victim if they had that mindset. While sharing is encouraged in the game, it is not mandated. Harassing other players in chat is explicitly forbidden and can result in action taken against your account. Keep in mind, while these resources seem super duper important and hard to find at the start, they really are quite abundant and they aren't even especially valuable in gold exchange. They can all be purchased as well. If someone's just playing through and not being sociable, that's their business and it's not actually harming you or the other players. You don't know what's going on on their side of the screen so DON'T be rude in chat!

Dropping a lure while waiting for people to arrive at the grove is such a good idea! I usually go mining/tree chopping around the grove but that can get confusing for others who are trying to keep an eye on who has arrived/who is still on the way. And on occasion me chopping a regular tree has gotten people angry at me since they thought it was a flow tree or has made impatient peeps take down flow trees. So like, it caused not fun chaos. A bug lure will cause fun chaos!

It is massively abundant now after the update but everyone walks by it because the texture is hard to differentiate from stone from far away. It is not a rare resource anymore, I can get over 100 ore an hour solo and never going to call outs.

I use to wait, and wait, and wait for others to come break a palium node. Got to the point I was waiting for hours in game time, compared to the small amount of time actually trying to find palium. I also would call out nodes and be waiting for those who said they were OTW just to have another player come up and clear the node. To me, anymore, this does not feel like a cooperative game but a free for all. I think people are getting tired if waiting. Waiting is not playing a game and to me it is not how a game should be designed. Especially for those players who don't have hours of real life time to play.

Even after hundreds of hours I've never seen a grove chopped past 630am and only because it was found very late. I think a lot of people get impatient and don't actually realize how little time has passed irl. An hour in game is only 2 and a half real minutes. 💕

OMG, I didn't know any of this! I have been playing on and off for the last week and have acquired my exquisite axe, bow and pickaxe and am level 7, 8 or 9 in all other skills apart from fishing. I have not used the chat at all as I thought it was for people who collaborated in teams. I am not good with social media as it is so time-consuming. I have been solving the mysteries and discovering the lore of Palia by first-hand interaction and observation. I have had difficulty finding flow-trees and had not been aware of the groves though, by following the "giant" footprints and airstreams and the display of magical purple ether in the sky, I have by chance found the grove twice and had worked out that it must spawn randomly. I did not know that it consistently appears at midnight in-game. I found a whole group of people there and assumed that they were working together as a consistent group, like a guild. I found that if I started trying to chop down a tree, everyone there would come and hit the tree once only and leave: I had assumed that they were either felling the tree with one hit or had no interest in helping me. Thus, I would eventually leave after having hit several trees but not having felled any. I did not stick around to get my share of the resource! Palia is a lovely, absorbing game and I enjoy it thoroughly. However, my ignorance of the etiquette must have irritated players who have been playing for more than a week.

My worst experiences have been from streamers creating a group through their stream and then running around with them collecting the flow trees, and not calling them out for the public... That server then is useless to any single player or small team that needs flow trees. I tried to explain that to a streamer once and I was told to F**k off if I didn't like it and their group harassed me until I left the server... I logged off and honestly haven't been back since... :/ Ill be going back for the markets... But what you say to a player can effect them, so be kind all!

(Could be an idea for a next video about common “body language” players use to communicate faster :P )But anyway, I appreciated the video a lot. Except for flowtrees, groves and, as I call them, disco deers, I don't usually wait. I call it out and flare it, because if I pick out palium ore, it doesn't mean it's gone for others. Others can pick it too at their own accord. But I don't wait for someone to appear so we can pick together, unless I know they're very closeby somewhere. I also don't always call out things when I'm busy. The only things I will always call out are groves, dari cloves, heartdrop lily's, big palium ores and disco deer. The rest of the stuff I don't call out if I don't have time or I am too focussed on something (having to call out would break my focus in that case). I don't think it's a bad thing. Everyone's already so kind and friendly with each other on the game. I've never seen that in any other mmo games. I don't usually even engage in chats much in mmo's, except here. The fact that rare things often get called out by people by itsself is already a feature you rarely see in other games. It's amazing!

I just started playing about a week ago. This is my first experience with an MMO. I wondered about etiquette because I came across a player standing in front a small flow tree. She was just standing there so I hit the tree. I waved to her to help. She did bless her but just now finding out that once you hit something it starts a timer? I feel so bad. She might have been waiting for people and I had no idea. I did manage to thank her on my slow switch chat tho.
@averycheesypotato4 ай бұрын
This video is a bit out of date, so some rules have changed. Flow trees don’t have a “timer.” You can hit one once at any time, it will just heal up. It stays standing until chopped down. If you have hit once, you will be included in the loot drop. Normal etiquette is to call it out (and flare if possible). You can say “chop at [X time]” so you’re not waiting indefinitely, just give a bit of time for others to show. It’s polite to wait for everyone who has responded with OMW to show up even if they’re a little late, but no one can fault you for cutting when you said you will. The latest update added a grid to the map, so calling out “F5” or “C2” makes for easy searching

I called it out not sure what to do, so I just followed ppl but it was confusing because when I thought we'd all start chopping instead people were chopping once then running to another tree etc, then sitting down lolol. I was so lost, but mimicked them, well the ones just running around to each and chopping a tree, until loads more ppl came and then ppl began chopping down fully, like a whirlwind and suddenly everything was done and everyone was leaving telling me thanks. So much so I forgot to say thanks and just said yw, It was an experience lol. I even shot a flare , and after was wondering if that was even a flare lol , just to be clear the fireworks are flares yes? With the palium ore, before my pick was high enough I'd be passing these everywhere in Bahari, big and small, and had no idea it should be called out.😅 But I'm guessing that's what pal is short for yes? I'd see ppl say that often, "pal E5 or something.

first, remember you dont 'have' to do anything in the game 🖤 flares are a type of arrow yes, but different to fireworks. Pal means Palium yes. also this video was made before the changes to Palium/Mining, so keep that in mind as well.

I hope S6 fixes the resource sharing in Palia. If things didn't de-spawn for everyone else after someone harvests them, we could still have nodes you have to work together to harvest, without anyone getting upset.

As a "seasoned" player, the problem we see most often is most players do not pay attention to the CHAT and/or the language barrier. I've seen it , I've been frustrated by them.

Yes, it’s hard to know all these things at first and I feel bad because the other day one took the whole med size pal for himself and I was flaring up waiting on ppl but he took it to himself when I came back from my switch keyboard option. 2 things got me upset the typing on switch and the player taking it after I was waiting for like 6min 😆 but it’s all good. I’m enjoying the game very much. I really want to build my PC soon so I can enjoy it with better graphics tho. Cuz there is a huge difference in graphics between switch and PC for sure!!! Thanks for this video ❤

As others have said, THANK YOU for mentioning how hard it is to chat with switch!! I'm a fast typist but I've given up on using the switch chat for anything other than, "omw." It's super frustrating and I end up spending 5 minutes to sound like a caveman. 😡 Also, if I'm using a compass then I only have 15 minutes (max) before the locate thingy is gone. Stopping to post a resource gobbles up so much time. I end up grabbing whatever it is and just keep going. I hate it and I feel selfish a lot. *sigh*

This was good to know, I started playing in jan. I’m at the point I need flow planks but haven’t joined a grove cutting yet bc ya know social anxiety lol. I have Watched a couple from afar while mining iron though. The chat just generally feels clunky on switch. Like I won’t be able to get there or message on time to make it or smth. (Plus I get lost in bahari 😂)

loved this video! I had an interesting time trying to figure out the communication codes within the game but luckily everyone was very nice and patient with me. what I did not understand is the gatherables part, what do you mean by "touched"? I thought once you touch it, you pick it up. And I thought that me grabbing it doesn't mean another player cannot grab it as well, since I've seen players approaching gatherables I've just picked up. I hope my question isn't redacted too weirdly lol

Thank you for this. I have been seeing an unfortunate amount of rudeness towards newer players and solo players when they are doing their own thing or still trying to figure out the unspoken rules. The last thing I want to see is the community fall apart because of some entitled players becoming self-appointed police. It is too nice of a game for that, and after the last update, pallium ore and flow trees are SO much more common. There is never a need to be rude to people or call them names over something that respawns so quickly. Educate, don't alienate!
@zeearchers7207 ай бұрын
I’m a solo switch player and my single most common experience with calling out flow trees or pallium is to be completely ignored. I wait around and wait around and while it’s true that the server says there are 0 players in my area, no one ever signals they’re on their way. My post to chat is literally ignored every time. Does that mean it’s broken? It makes me feel foolish for wasting time in the game that I could sure be using more productively. And it honestly makes me wonder if it’s only veteran players or those playing in a group who are even benefiting from the chat/server. 🤷🏼♀️
@WitchyTQ7 ай бұрын
You're absolutely valid with this feeling, there is a weird overlap happening where seasoned players dont really need that much resource at the moment but new players do but many aren't at the point of understanding call outs or even that resources can be shared. I'm slowly seeing that change as new players advance in the game though. I would use the tactic of calling out that you'll be breaking/chopping at a time in game, and if someone is there before then great but if not then you're gonna move on
@zeearchers7207 ай бұрын
@@WitchyTQ Thanks, that makes sense, and I’ll try your suggestion. It gets frustrating because I need ft wood but can’t collect it without help. I end up having to just leave so many trees behind. Pallium is much easier to collect solo. Thanks again!

Palium's rarity changed lately, it'll now Spawn on every possible ore location. so in my opinion it's not that necessary, unless it's the biggest of the ores.

I once found 2 med FT & before anyone else could come & chop it together, there's a old player (guess from their outfits & tools) with her/his buddy selfishly out of nowhere cut the tree w/o waiting. They didn't see me standing at a 2nd FT & come running but stop mid run, seems like they startled upon seeing me & got caught 😂 Just because it's 2 FT only they're not willing to wait.

I think it's ok to mine palium alone when YOU find it, also smaller ft. Imo there's no need to call out everything everytime. I usually call out bigger pal nodes and most ft, always grove. It's not possible to chop the bigger trees alone anyway. But I find it so rude if someone else finds stuff, calls out to share with other players and others come and take it down themselves. Happened with grove a lot lately. When the grove is found right after spawning and called out, there's often at least two people who immediately cut the grove down after arriving although there are people still on their way, they often don't even wait until 1 am. That's low-down.

i'm kinda new to the game (like a month) and i never experienced something so frustraded as yesterday... we found grove and were there chilling while waiting for 3am i was in a rush i just wanted to take my ft loot and go on my way to find a rare butterfly and like 2:30 they put on a honey lure, i didnt wanted it i just wanted my ft so i waited til 3am and started chopping the trees while people where vibing in the lure (i knew all hitted the tree and anyone else did come) after that a group of people started bullying me so hard calling me selfish and sh** saying i should just have left, someone was defending me and they told them to uninstall the game (i know i should have said "guys im cutting 3am, more things to do" or something yeah my mistake) but PLEASE just try to be nice and call things u find wrong in a nice way, not throwing a bully tantrum.

Communicate .... sigh. I'm now on the Asia Pacific server. Sadly, I cannot read Chinese script, Japanese or Korean text in the server communication options. And complete lack of any notification re. flow tree grove means I've only tripped accidentally across two flow tree groves since I got allocated my new overall server. I will hear the flow tree grove; but unless I can find its glow, nothing. No Palium whatsover, in terms of call-outs. Unless I want more crabs or special gatherables or fish, I don't even bother with Bahari anymore. Also, apparently, Switch players have enormous difficulty texting anything in chat, usually, so that would explain the frenetic "jumping up and down and pointing" that I occasionally get to see, but total silence in chat. Lol. Most players are STILL trying to be co-operative, but unless they have flare arrows, or one is face to face, it's been silent on my server, for me.
