"Depend on me, here now" is what I hear in the beginning, and I think it is muffled/subjective to what it says on purpose since I think the song is about him trying to find God in his life, thinking God doesn't listen. But, it is God asking him to depend on him now in the muffled voice, signifying that it can be hard to listen to the still, small voice in life. "You may not have faith in God, but God has faith in you". Just my take on it.
