That is one of the last DC-10s in existence. It is over 50 years old. Hopefully they don't send it to the scrapyard after they are done with it. Should be preserved as a museum plane when it becomes too old to fly.

The red liquid is Fire Retardant. It helps stop the spread of fires. The red color helps the pilots see where they have already dropped it. Planes have to go back to an airport to be refilled with it. Plain water can be picked up by helicopters from almost any source including swimming pools, decorative ponds, lakes, and the Pacific Ocean. The Super Scooper Planes can pickup water from the Pacific without stopping, but they need lots of room for a pickup.

The high speed rail is 80 billion over budget, starting in 2008 was supposed to be done in 2020 connecting Bakersfield with Merced. NO it does not connect San Francisco to Los Angeles. It's Bakersfield and some town no one has ever heard of. They will need more money to get the train finished. All of this cash, and we can't afford desalination? We can't afford reservoirs? We could have had reservoirs. We could have had power lines that are buried. We could have had aquifers, we could have had a system for collecting rain water. We could have had a forest management that focused on dry vegetation and fallen trees.

The DC 10s were originally regular passenger planes. They were converted to fire tankers when they had "Problems" and no one wanted to get on a DC 10. The "Problems" were caused by maintence done incorrectly, not a problem with the airplane.
