It's ALIEN, of course, and since 1979 it's titular character has appeared (tho altered) in multiple big budget flicks, with varying and often disappointing results. With the new Alien: Romulus currently face-hugging the public in a retro way, we thought we'd cover the good, the bad and the Italian (yes, we get to the ALIEN rip-offs!) in our latest convo.

Fantastic episode!!! The deep dive into the comic was unexpected and appreciated. The Indiana Jones episode helped me get through my father's funeral. Thank you for the "shout out". That was cool. Please bring Bowie (Jason's dog) to the next Mego Meet. Fans will be lined up outside the door to meet him.

Alien is my earliest movie memory. 5 years old in the back seat at the drive-in. My parents were wild.

I had the exact same reaction as Jason about reading the book as a kid: I was in a bus station on a bus trip from Toronto to Columbus in '79 and there was a kid, a little older than me, maybe 10 or 11, sitting at a TV in one of those banks of coin-operated B&W mini TV viewing stations that bus stations had, apparently, and I distinctly remember thinking "Oh, no! He shouldn't be reading that! He's too young! He'll be scared!"

I remember just before Alien 3 came out, Weaver was being interviewed(I think it was on SCI-FI). She stated, "The fans are going to love it". One of the most memorable things about Alien for me, at the time(79) there was an exhibit at the California science center. It had miniatures, sets and costumes. The Mother control room was the most memorable for me. I got a real respect(I will say at the time) for Cameron, after seeing the directors cut of Aliens(on laserdisc). Honestly, I don't think he ever got back to that level.

Alien and Aliens will always be my favorites of the series. Should have ended it there. Saw Aliens at a Drive In with a double feature of The Road Warrior. I do like the cheesy knock-offs. Galaxy Of Terror was always on HBO. Creature, I remember renting for 99 cents. Creepy monsters in space theme is hit or miss but if it isn't dull like Alien 3, its worth a look.

BTW,the whole Nixon thing was a set up ,but one of my favorite Christmas gifts was that Kenner Alien,didn't even know that existed, miss those days.

It comes up a lot about Ripley being written as a man but wasn't there a "love scene" between Ripley and Dallas that was an early excision from the script, it would certainly have been novel.

"Fan service" started in the 80s or early 90s in reference to anime producers slipping in things like boob bounces and panty shots into shows.

Howard Hawks beat Robert Altman to overlapping dialog. Check out the original The Thing from Another World. Okay, so technically directed by Christian Nyby, but we all know... 😏
