I didn't know either until Plaidstallions did a video about them, and I was totally blown away by the revelation. I would have definitely sought them out and gotten them if I'd known that they existed! It's why I love the content on this channel!

I had 2 of them as a kid that I got my grandparents to buy me when I went shopping with them. They were total garbage as figures. They fell apart in hours after I got them. I still have both heads and one of the outfits today. I know Brian said that they were made with the hopes that kids would buy them and then use the heads & outfits on Mego figures and I believe that-that is true as they had to know that the bodies weren't going to survive even one day of play. Today I have one of them on a Mego body with it's original outfit while the other is also on a Mego body with an outfit that I created using several pieces that I bought off of Figures Toy Company's "Classic TV Toys" website. I didn't base it on the original outfit but rather just something that came from the mind of a guy who was a kid who had these kind of figures in the 70s/80s, so it looks like something that maybe Tomland would have created.

LOVE this! I'm sure I had some of these knock-offs as I remember some of them stuffed into our $2 - $5 'show bags' at the Royal Easter Shows here in Australia back when I was a kid. I was obsessed with getting as many of those bags as I could, all of which would contain lots of bizarre candies that would inevitably make you sick, lots of useless cheap dollar-store gags and paper stuff that you would play with once and throw away and one of these brilliant knock-off action figures or a really cheap, nasty clone fashion doll. They were the best and I wish I had bought duplicates of these bags to set aside for the future as I am sure they would be hot collectors items today. (without the fossilised candy, of course! LOL)

Martian Chronicles came out right around the same time as a Brave New World mini-series, and I remember watching them both and being completely baffled by the non-kid content...I really wish these were kicking around today without paying an arm and a leg to watch.

You can watch BNW here on KZbin. I've watched it a couple of times. I also had to read the book in Highschool and then, watch the mini series.

Always the sign of an excellent video when I end up watching it 3 or 4 times! Those Martian Chronicles figures' card art is just brilliant, and I love the various face sculpts! (definitely one of my fave 80's miniseries btw) My other favourites here included Kojak (what? No Stavros or Crocker figures?!), Adventure Man ("mortal enemy Copyright Lawyer Man" - Lol!), Astro Apes with bright green boots (?) and, of course, Mr Rock. As Mr spock would say: "Highly Illogical Captain!" 10/10 great video, thanks!

I was insulted the first time I saw it and I still am. That maskless Lone Ranger on the Adventure Man packaging is a sin beyond all forms of forgiveness. And, I am shocked that those Bible Greats figures that my grandmother used to buy for me as a kid are somehow worth something now. I never actually played with them and I am certain my mother probably donated a bunch of them to the Goodwill.

How do the LJN figures factor in as far as knockoffs? I mean they were licensed properties by a major toy company at the time, but they were very Mego-like.
@BrickMantooth3 жыл бұрын
I consider them Knock Offs of the format, they're very much trying to ape Mego figures.
@megomego-likemaven46502 жыл бұрын
Knock-off doesn't have to imply that it was made by some unknown company. Many big toy companies have made knock offs of licenses held by other companies.

Also im 100% CERTAIN i had some of those Bible mego knock offs. My HYPER RELIGIOUSE Aunt got me some of them...after she call3d me a quote "Satan Worshiping, Evil little piece of shit" after i bought a beetlejuice figure with money she had given to me a few months before, and asked what i got with it. Then got mad at me again when she saw me using Jesus to fight the Incredible Hulk, Batman and the Joker. I was 5 years old, btw. Still remember both of those "Mental Breakdowns" from her, like it was yesterday lol. My mom told her to never vuy or speak to me again, btw. However short lived that was. But she never bought me anymore toys, ill tell ya that. She started just giving me money for my birthday. or christmas, and never asked what i got with it. We was all a lot happier with that outcome. Never doubt just what sort of evil a bipolar ex drunk can accomplish with a few $10 bills, and a whole lotta pent up evil inside em, though!
