I had the 12 inch magnetic Robin (UK). Loved that head sculpt! I don't know why, but I was always a Robin fan as a kid - I even liked his costume!

i was more into Robin as a kid than Batman, I guess because he was depicted as 18 or so.

I bought the Magnetic Batman and Robin figures first, then I bought their boxes. I did the same with Stretch Armstrong. It's less expensive that way. I just received the Robin box in the mail this week. I love how they display.

I've done that too.

Very exciting Mego topic: Particularly tuned in to the Canadian (& International) connections. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Bronze Age Robin fan: Appreciative of your analysis of the comic book & artist of that time period. Happy for your collection, and sharing their sculpts and packaging eye-candy with the community.

The Hulk and Superman 12 inch were the two that were readily available in Australia. I remember them in stores as a kid and own both now. I purchased mine at local markets (not ebay) which also helps prove Australian distribution.

Mego in Australia was distributed by TOLTOYS. Hulk, Spider-man Superman , Kiss and Moonraker were definitely available here as I bought them at retail at the time. Don’t recall seeing the other characters but that’s not to say they weren’t also available.

I loved my Mego Batman & Robin as a kid... the 1/6th Robin is still to this date the joint best (with Super Powers) Robin figure ever made

I agree with that totally.

Hey Brian, This was an excellent video about the Mego 12 inch Robin figures. As a kid, I fondly remember getting the Mego Magnetic Robin for Christmas in 1978. And on my birthday in September of 1979, I got the Mego Magnetic Batman. They were two of my favorite treasures. When it comes to Robin, I am primarily a fan of the Bronze Age Robin. Back when Dick Grayson was in his college years and was referred to as the Teen Wonder. I loved the 12 inch Magnetic Robin because his Bronze Age look was the version of Robin who was on the SuperFriends and voiced over by the late great Casey Kasem. The biggest mistake I ever made in the world of collecting was selling or trading them in for other collectables. Meanwhile, the Mego Magnetic Dynamic Duo's price values were going up. But finally, back in 2019, I was finally able to reacquire them on ebay. As author of the Ultimate SuperFriends Companion books, I must say that one of the reasons I love the 9 and 12 inch Robins over the 8 inch one was because this was who he resembled on the SuperFriends. And this was the version of Robin I always wanted to see in the movies on the big screen. I never knew about the 9 inch Robin, but I wish I had him. The only thing I've never liked on Batman and Robin's head sculpts by Mego were the pupils. I would have preferred the white slits in place of the pupils. Also I wish Mego's Robin figures capes could have gone around the neck instead of stopping at the shoulders. But otherwise, these Robins were great. I only wish Figures Toy Company could replicate the head sculpts from the 12 inch Mego figures, let alone the muscular physiques. Again, this was an excellent video on the Mego Robins. Two thumbs up!! :)

Hey Will, have you seen the new Mego Robin Sculpt? To me it's the Robin I wanted as a kid, love to know your thoughts.

@@BrickMantooth Hey Brian. No I haven't seen it yet. Is this an 8 inch or a 14 inch Mego? And where can I see the new head sculpt? Inquiring mind wants to know.

Fun episode. Nice to be reminded that Robin is actually a pretty cool character. That tends to get forgotten with the comics and movies all obsessed with grim and gritty.

Had the Magnetic Batman as a kid but not Robin, heard both that they made and didn't make a Magnetic Spidey, he seems like a better fit for the gimmick.

I have been waiting for thus one Brian! I had the 10" Robin as a kud here in UK. His eladtic broke after about 12mths and for years he sat in a bag waiting for the'technology'to advance enough for me to fix him. Now that I've learned how, I cant find him!! I LOVED this figure as a kid. I hope I can find him. (Please Toy-Gods, bless me with a Robin!!)

good luck finding him.

My Magnetic Robin came with a broken leg, judging by your photo of yours signed by Burt Ward, yours was too! My parents exchanged it twice and all had broken legs. :(

My brother and I had a few of these 12" when we were kids growing up in Puerto Rico. I had hulk, superman, batman, my brother had Spider-Man, my other brother the youngest had robin, and my sister had wonderwoman.they were a lot of fun.

As a kid I was lucky enough to own the 12" Hulk and Spider-Man, which also had "Fly-away action"... but I COVETED the magnetic-hands Batman & Robin figures, and never owned them until I was an adult. Of course Mego also produced 12" Superman: The Movie figures, which are indescribably gorgeous and which go well with magnetic B&R!

yeah Fly Away Action was added mid stream, hence the sticker.

That was a really good video, thank you for sharing. I never had any of these as a kid, but their history is fascinating to listen to. Absolutely loved the Burt Ward autographed Robin, how Cool is that? did you actually meet him? Oh, and ref. the magnetic Batman / Robin commercial: I've seen the brilliant restoration work done on some of the old Micronaut toy commercials, restoring the colours, etc. I don't know if it's cost-prohibative, time - consuming work, but this one would seem worthy too, as it just perfectly captures the spirit of the toy for me. Either way, another brilliant video I enjoyed.

That's not the first history you've shared where management had to be convinced to make money lol. As they say it's not what you like but the consumer. I can see the appeal to kids, I always liked to see toys on the large side, but I was in the post 6" era. ^_^ Amazing what 4 inches adds to sculpt definition and clothing detail. That magnet gimmick is pretty sweet and fits with many a super hero. 4:15 Ah I see more than a few toy companies do that foundation reference method and I guess it saves time but I always figure it's such an expense to make a new mold you might as well make the most out of it with unique sculpts. Still I don't work there, let's see if I even make it to the MegoMuseum customs forum. ;)

Though interested in things like micronauts/microman, i dont have much of an interest in Mego's other offerings. Though i wouldent mind making a custom magnetic spiderman
